Why has a God that is both forgiving and eternally unchanging given a finite period in which humans can be forgiven? Surely if God was TRULY forgiving and loving, he would accept someone's prayer for forgiveness whenever it was prayed.

This probably isn't the case in the USA where 45% of people take Genesis seriously. But in the rest of the christian world, most people dismiss the parts of the bible that don't fit with their own morality or understanding of science, and hold onto the bits that back up what their morals would probably be without religion while getting assurance of life after death.

Isn't this stance not much different from Pascal's wager?

Why bother with the silly book at all if you accept most of it as false?

I feel that every person needs to believe in something to form a basis for life (reference material-if you like?)I was brought up in a Christian family, I have nothing against the religion...I just hate the way my parents and the church taught me to believe because even today when I say God I look up to the heaven. He is everywhere and in everything. I believe it is in me.I wish I knew what I believe because currently I am following my own and I would love to join a group of people who believe the same as me.I believe in reincarnation, I believe in energy. I believe the way you think you are, you are because the mind is a very powerfull thing.I have read the book Conversations with God and I agree with almost everything that is written in there.I don't like people(like my old preist) who force me to believe in something what they believe but I do like people's opinions. Please give me your opinions on what you believe and why.I would love to find a religion and currently I am kind of los

It has been said that humans should not be able to marry animals because animals cannot consent. It is true that animals cannot consent, but why is that important? I do not need the consent of an animal to kill it and eat it, so why would I need its consent to marry it?

What are your opinions on them? have you had positive/negative experiences with them? No people with positive/negative experiences with them? Should they be legal? for spiritual use? for recreational use? strictly for organized religions? not at all? is it the government's business to regulate them? any thing else?

I've done them a few times for spiritual/recreational use, I find to be a very powerful mind opening drug, that help you understand 'things' better.

live and behave as you like not giving a **** to what others might think?

There are a lot of people who ruin their lives simply by concerning about other"s criticism .

For example my friend went to university to become a doctor , but what he really wanted to be a musician.

He became a doctor , but not happy .
He often complains about his inner emptiness.

How can we smart or brave enough to say no with confidence when everybody says yes?

How can we stay safe or not hyptonized when others expect us to be what they want to , not what we want?

How can we say " I am who I am ' when others say you are a ****?

If Christians end up being right when all is said and done, who will you turn your anger, annoyance toward, when it can't be Christians anymore because they tried to encourage you to know God? How will you feel, knowing you dismissed the idea entirely, when perhaps you should have remained open, so that God could have an IN, and you shut Him out.
I want answers to the question, NOT...things like "Well that won't happen because there is no fairy tale God"... This question is stating , if there IS a God.
Thanks in advance for your replies! =)

Last night I was talking to my daughter about the upcoming holiday, Memorial Day. I told her that its a day to remember our loved ones that have died. Then the conversation changed we started talking about my grandma, she died when I was a child and my daughters middle name is after her, I told my daughter that her great grandmas spirit is still alive and watches over us. I told that when our body dies our spirit still lives but we can't see or hear it. Then my 4 yr old daughter looks up and says "Whats Spirit?" So now I'm thinking, ooohhh crap how do I explain this !!!!!

I'm not religious though I am spiritual, I haven't found a specific belief that feels right to me. If you can't answer this question without trying to convert me to your belief then please don't bother answering.

I would like advice from a non-religious and open-minded perspective. Thanks.

I grew up non-Mormon in Utah and had every opportunity to become a resentful minority, but I didn't. They might be dorks, but they're not half as vicious and insane as what I've read about Pentecostals (and seen in the Borat movie. Do you remember how disturbing and barbaric that was?!)
Learn something about Mormons people (besides the long-since-abandoned polygamy idea) before giving them a hard time. At least they don't view God as a monster.

Why do churches need 10% of their parishioners' incomes? That seems rather steep. Can't they hand out coupons and make it 5%?

I am a Muslim but if you believe that Quran is fake, don't you think that Mohammed is a genius??? Because as you believe Quran is false, there are over 1 billion people that believe in the "lies"...

And right now a human that died a long time ago and Satan are more powerful than the 3 "gods" of the Bible, the Hole Trinity...

And was Mohammed a scientific genius, too??? Because of the scientific stuff in Quran??? And was he the best author of all times because of how well Quran is written???

I will try to be brief because I know sometimes its boring to read a lengthy post.

I have a mother who is mentally ill. When I was a young child she was very abusive to me. She went as far as to throw a knife at me once. As I grew up at one point I was placed in a foster home. I never stopped loving my mother and I NEVER hated her. I always knew she was sick. Though the wounds were deep. When I became an adult and got married , both my husband and I have taken care of her every need. She lives in her own place but stays at my house alot. I am kind to
her and go above and beyond trying to do for her. I dont know
if all mental ill people are this way but she is extremely mean to me. She says things to me that you cannot imagin. I try to
always be practical and realize that she is ill but it does effect
me no matter how hard I try. I am starting to realize it has a large part in making me feel bad about myself and guilty all the time like I can never do things good enough.

Anyway, why are you so threatened by two consenting adults wanting to share their life together and have the same rights etc...

I have been with my partner for 17 years...but, do you know if he were in intensive care in the hospital, I would not be allowed to see him...because I am not considered, "immediate family"?

The love of money is the root of all evil.

Seems to me that a humble hebrew that despised money, was betrayed for money, and knocked over the money changers tables would rather not have million dollar "showboat" churches dedicated to him.

I just read the Red Queen's question, and was struck by the number of answers that said if the message is "Good" then it comes from God, but if it is "Bad" then it comes from Satan.

And there was one answer that pointed out that too often people claim that God told them to do exactly what they wanted to do. "How convenient".

Since it is the human brain that is trying to judge whether the message is "Good" (from God) or "Bad" (from Satan), then isn't it the human who is deciding what is Good and what is Bad and then attributing the message to God or Satan?

After all, if the message is perceived by the human to be "Good", then the human concludes the message must come from God.

If the message is perceived to be "Bad", then the human concludes the message must come from Satan.

The interpretation of the message depends entirely upon what the recipient believes is "Good" and "Bad".

If you are a bigot and the message praises you for it, then the message must come from God.
