At the moment of brain death, when all possibility of awareness has passed. I witnessed something when I was 19 that convinced me of this, and I am a lifelong atheist. It was at that point that I came to believe we have souls, even though it is contrary to what most atheists believe.

When the body ceases to breath on its own the soul leaves the body. In cases like this one where a respirator is used it is quite common for the soul to depart while the body is artificially alive from the respirator.

Human soul will depart from the body at the moment when you you cease to breath or at the time of stopping to breath which is considered as you were already dead.
Your expression os wrong because tht is not allowing death. The respirator was taken out when they sensed that the person was already dead but they did not aallow it to die because if they allow it to die, they should not have applied the respirator.

When someone has been artificially keep alive it is hard to tell when their soul departs their body. I have been with many people who died natural deaths and in them, the soul seemed to depart immediately after they took their last breath. It was like it rushed out through their head and was gone.

Normally, it's at the time of death, but in cases like you mentioned, sometimes before. Our modern medicine is fantastic, but there are times when it's time for the patient to go and artificial means isn't going to stop the soul from departing. What will be, will be.

The legend of the 7 lives of the cat turns out to have piqued your curiosity. In one Legend, the souls of folks who're misplaced are stored within the tom cat spirit for safety till they are able to discover their manner... hence the notion that cats are part within the spirit international all the time (that is why they make such darn well Familiars). The soul is drawn to the side of the cat that's in transition and stored there till the spirit is inclined to take delivery of their direction... Yeah I understand I repeat myself plenty....

it depends on your point of view and what you understand as the "soul"
naturally the sould departs seldomly even when the body is alive.
so in death, the soul hangs around 'as-some say' but never enters the body again.
