According to Genesis neither birth nor death existed before Adam and Woman (as she was called before she ate the fruit) ate from the tree of knowledge. After they ate from it death existed and childbirth, remember Woman was not created to be the child bearer that was bestowed upon her for convincing Adam to eat. Should us as humans who are alive be happy that they disobeyed god, because otherwise none of us would be here. What do you think?

Theists, explain this.

(I can't wait for their irrational and un-matching explanations)

I need help. I want to believe in the goodness of religion, but I am struggling.

I'm starting to think religion is just all about preserving your own ticket to so called heaven rather than creating happiness and sympathy for people who are actually here on Earth.

It seems so many religious people are blindly willing to hurt their own families, minority groups or even inflict violence against others if it means they get on the good side of God and get into so called heaven.

Even my own aunty avoids her non-religious family and shuns her parents, and also her son who is gay, which has cuased them so much pain, all becuase of her selfishness to get herself into heaven and be on Gods good side.

I am worried as I am becoming very cynical towards organised religion, but at the same time I also think it's making me more understanding and compassionate of the feelings and pain of others.

I don't know what to think. Am I being too cynical?

I know that I've found salvation in the Magical Pink Unicorn. Yet all I see here is people rubbishing my beliefs and comparing it to a belief in some invisible bearded man in the sky. Just because you're foolish enough not to have sought the love of the MPU, don't take it out on us!

In the Passover story, in the Exodus, the tenth plague is the Death of the Firstborn. But did this apply to only the firstborn men and boys, or also to the firstborn women and girls? In the movie The Ten Commandments, it was both sexes. Exodus 11 in the NIV translation says "firstborn son", but the KJV says just "firstborn", and The Message "firstborn child". Perhaps some translations fell victim to sexist assumptions? What do you think? Can you back up your answer with scholarly proof or good logic?

Pastor Billy's recent question about why Protestants think Roman Catholics don't respect Scripture got me to thinking. We Orthodox have the same problem but here's what we do:

We read two passages (a couple of chapters) out of both the Gospels and epistles minimum every Sunday morning our service (matins and the Liturgy). Our hymns are often, a single Scripture or several Scriptures together. For example, we sing Psalm 50/51 every service and in most devotionals. We sing St. Symeon's prayer every service. The services pepper almost everything with Scripture readings and go through it all (save Revelation). So great is our respect for God's Word, that every matins, we file out and kiss the Bible to show our affection and love of the Bible.

I used to be Evangelical. We never used as much Scripture even as we do in just the readings.

In light of that, which Church really respects the Scripture more manifestly, Evangelicalism or Orthodoxy? Why criticize us as if we didn't love the Word?

John 6

26Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval."

28Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

If you have only had intercourse with one woman your entire life then congrats you are a true monogamist.

All the rest are different levels of polygamy.

Both monogamy and celibacy are manmade and un-natural.

John 5

28"Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29and come out—those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. 30By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.

According to the Christian doctrine, Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins. The idea here is that every human is born with sins, or that all humans will sin, and therefore it was necessary that someone as pure as Jesus would be the crucified to nullify these sins. The question is; why does anyone have to die for our sins when God, the All-Merciful, could as easily give us forgiveness if we ask for it? Isn't God the one who makes the rules? Why does He have to make someone suffer for our sins or for someone else's sins? Isn't that unjust of Him? According to the Bible the way to redemption could be obtained without the need for sacrifice. The Bible says:

Ezekiel 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Isnt believing your religion is the only truth and is without a doubt superior to all other religions equivalent to a rascist saying his/her ethnicity is the true race and is superior to all the others? Im not saying they are equivalent in evil, rather the natural dogmatic state of mind people have when they believe their opinions are absolute truth eventhough it may be flawed. Cant people see playing one side is always dogmatic and encourages competition which may lead to pity or hate?

Some people think that the creation/formation of a baby in the mothers womb "just happens". Think about it........ perfect babies (and I know there are some "unperfect" babies but they are still babies) born every second. Look at it this way:

Take a cake mix and throw it into a bowl
Add eggs, water and oil
Then wait for it to make itself - ain't gonna happen

That is about as rediculous as someone thinking that a creator didn't have anything to do with creation. What are your thoughts? How does a perfect baby just happen when a sperm and egg come together? It is, in my opinion, a miracle.

Honor one another above yourselves. 11Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

I know everyone has different view points when it comes to religion. But why can't we all just agree to disagree? Degrading someone over the internet is not a very good way to push your beliefs on them and judging someone isn't very nice to begin with. If someone is Atheist, then that's their choice, not yours! If someone is Christian, again that's their choice. We all have to live with our own choices! Clumping people into groups is just awful. Everyone in each religion has different extremes but they are entitled to their opinion and choice. I have no problem listening to others beliefs because it gives me some thing to think about. Putting others down is wrong and I think everyone, no matter what their beliefs, can agree with that...just a thought.

I feel that an important statement of Faith is very relevant - an orientation from Anglican to Catholic belief is a matter for personal consideration - what is more important is that Christian values are more progressive in Catholic circles to my understanding - I beleive it is important to uphold religious values - whatever our particular faith - our differences should be celebrated - a shared virtous vision to uphold values that advance understanding and action to promote a healthy and sustainable future for humankind is only to be encouraged.

I have been to a lot of different chruches. Many beliefs tend to say, "Pants are a mans clothes and women can not wear them."
What was Jesus wearing? I know that it says in the Bible that a woman can not wear a mans clothes, how ever, when did pants come in to the picture? and, How did pants become only a "mans" clothing?

i am only asking because my wife likes to wear pants, how ever she is constantly running in to women who are screaming "God hates it when women wear pants!" and things like that. i tell her not to worry about it.

I am wondering, if any one knows the answer, the real answer, because I don´t, and i would like to tell my wife the "Truth" of "Pants"

Can any one help?

Atheists look around themselves and say "the creation doesn't prove a creator!", it's all how you interpret it.

Well, let's ask atheists to provide proof for evolution. But you can't advance anything that must be interpreted. Fossils aren't proof because they need interpretation. Were they laid down in the flood, or were they buried in a "geologic layer" corresponding to an evolutionary epoch? Both are interpretations based on a belief system.

Micro-mutations cannot be advanced as proof of evolution because all they have been observed to do is serve as a quality control mechanism, never a speciation converter.

If you hold evolution as scientific fact, yet you cannot produce proof, your belief in evolution is a religion, no different than my belief in creation.

Please no ad homonym attacks. Don't call me names, or make derogatory comments about how stupid religion is, or that God doesn't exist. Yeah, we've heard it all before. It's neither interesting or enlightening.
