I'm an Athiest. You always hear the argument about Gods existance somehow proves that we have an all powerful all good god hanging over us.

So lets look at it in a different way. I'm going to assume god exists.

If god exists, why does he want followers? For his ego? Do you do it just because he threatens you?
If God is so arrogent to demand worship, why would you want to follow him? If he is the least bit evil, wouldn't you work against him?

If a god existed as present in most western religions, he would be all powerful and not need followers.

Trying to put it simpler, i want an argument against skepticism. Even if it is true, why not doubt, like we do scientific knoledge (even those which have been proven are constantly doubted). If there is an all powerful god, he does not need the the support. If he is even the least bit evil, we need the people questioning the foundation to keep us from following the evil path.

I mean Judas was given communion by JC himself...so why can't someone who is divorced be given that same spiritual courtesy. For instance, my grandmother a devout Catholic had her husband leave her through no fault of her own (he left her for another woman), it broke her heart and she was left utterly alone to raise her children. The church was everything to her, and she was denied partaking in Communion and it made her cry everytime she was at Church. It would have meant so much to her, her self-esteem was so battered as it was, but now she was also unworthy to partake in the holy sacrament? That just seems cruel and mean to me....and I bet Jesus isn't very happy about this concept.

How do you feel about this?

One of the most embarrassing events in Muhammad's life occurred when Satan put his words in Muhammad's mouth. Muhammad spoke Satan's words as the word of God. This event is documented by several early Muslim scholars and referenced in the Hadith and Quran. Later Muslims, ashamed that their self declared prophet spoke Satan's words, denied the event occurred. A myriad of excuses and denials have been put forth by these later Muhammadans to cover up Muhammad's sinful error.

It must be pointed out again that the "Satanic Verses" event is not something made up by non-Muslims. The event is recorded by the earliest Islamic sources available on Muhammad's life. No one should think that it is a story made up by people who are critical of Islam. It is an episode directly found in the early Islamic records.

Is this true? Did Muhammad also work part-time as a spokesman for Syaitan?

Every religion feels their religious text is the most holy of them all. The Talmud, the Quoran, the Bible-- all of these books are 'holy scripture' to their followers. But to people of other faiths, these books just contain 'stories' or 'fables.'

Is it possible for someone to have a religious discussion without quoting from their religious text?

Do most well-educated religious individuals, regardless of religion, understand that to someone else, their faith is nothing more than 'stories?'

Are most religious individuals able to seperate faith from perception? (ie: my view of your faith is different from your view?)

What is it that, at the end of the day, makes one religious text more holy than another? Perception? Faith? Interpretation? Age?

What are your thoughts?

(Only well thought out answers, please. No scripture quoting.)

Genesis 12:7, God promises that the land of Israel was to be for Abraham and his descendants. In 1948 Israel was returned back to the Jewish people for the second time in history. This may not seem so astonishing until you realize that no nation in the history of the world has been scattered from its homeland and returned! Israel has done it twice.

God also warns us about the last days, world wars, hunger, earthquakes, loveless people, children been disobedient to parents, diseases, etc. Matthew 24

May I also just add that the bible comes from the oldest part of our civilized world, why is human civilization only a mere 6000 years old... why? if we ivolved over a period of millions of years? Why is our history so short?

The Bible so far outshines every competing source for being God's revelation that if it is not God's word it would seem impossible to choose between the leftovers?

...but what would happen to the future of Catholicism, since nuns and priests are not supposed to marry?

Why does piety in Catholicism prevent one from enjoying life fully?

What would happen if the entire world became pious Catholics? Then no one would get married and procreate??

Our bodies' ability to heal, our minds, the stars in alignment, the water cycle are all evidence of a Creator. You don't question Picasso or who made the Pyramids or who built the Brooklyn Bridge so why do you refuse to accept that we, the Earth, the Universe, et, al, are made by Creator/Designer? So what, did all of this come about by a big bang? What caused the Big Bang? The murky soup you crawled up from and slithered until you became an upright walking caveman, who or what created that? The Universe is in such order that you can't just shoot a spaceshuttle off into the air. Why? You need a window. Otherwise, you might hit the moon or some star. Come on, you gotta gimme something better than that guys!

...and I'm talking about Bible-style miracles, not those fake miracles like,
"I was cured of cancer..." Note: Cancer can disappear in a day on it's own - If you had cancer and it's in remission or "gone" then it is not a miracle - it's nature.

And I'm not talking about rumors.

"Overseas miracles" or "Missionary stories [lies]"

I'm talking about videos of the dead being raised, with witnesses.

Jesus wasn't afraid to perform REAL miracles when he was alive...

So, now that He's dead, the miracles died too? The bible says that the apostles did miracles also... When they died, the miracles died?

How freakin' convenient!

Look at how many televangelists lined the walls with the canes, wheelchairs and crutches of so-called "healed" people, only later to be exposed as a FRAUD!
