Somebody observed that atheists don’t find God for the same reason that bank robbers don’t find policemen.

I am trying to understand Islam, and as the such I wish to know your views regarding abortion. Do you think that in some instances abortion might be justified, such as in the case that a person was raped by a family member, or some other horrendous situation. Please, if possible just tell me if this is a personal view, or include passages from the Koran to support your view.

Thank you.

Also, non muslims are welcomed to answer this question as well. Please indicate where you came to such a conclusion, whether it be a persona experience or through research.. Thanks.

For this passage from the Tao Te Ching, exactly what is the "darkness" that is found "within darkness"? I just received this passage in one of my many BeliefNet.com newsletters & i'm real curious about what this means but i'm not a Daoist so i don't understand it.

"The tao that can be told
is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named
is not the eternal Name.

The unnamable is eternally real.
Naming is the origin of all particular things.

Free from desire, you realize the mystery.
Caught in desire, you are only the manifestation.

Yet mystery and manifestations
arise from the same source.
This source is called darkness.

Darkness within darkness.
The gateway to all understanding."

007.157 "Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find mentioned in their own (Scriptures)-- in the Law and the Gospel;- for he commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure); He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the yokes that are upon them. So it is those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which is sent down with him, - it is they who will prosper."(QURAN)

The Bible was incorrectly translated from Hebrew to Greek. The word 'young woman' was changed to 'vigin' (as in the prophesy of the virgin birth in the OT):

From the mainstream British newspaper The Telegraph (link below):
"The doctrine of the miraculous conception and birth of a God-man was based on a remarkable mistranslation into Greek - wilful or otherwise - of Isaiah's original, quite specific Hebrew words."

From Translators Journal, a publication for professional translators (link below): "The Old Testament talks about almah 'young woman,' not bethulah 'virgin.' However, the scholars in the 3rd century BC translated the Hebrew almah as parthenos in Greek."

he was doing the Lord's work?

It caused a bit of controversy with the record company at the time who said his fans wouldn't approve. He replied by saying "well they ain't Christians then."

Personally I think he was trying to make a point to society about locking people away and forgetting about them.

if Islam was the religion that most people believed in? I am not trying to degrade Muslims in this question, I am honestly interested in what you believe it would be like. Like I said, it is a broad question. There are many possibilities. I have met Muslims whom interpret the Koran completely different than other Muslims. How do you think the the US would be as so far as individual rights, our views on other countries, etc. I do not understand Islam enough to make a informative evaluation. I have read and viewed a lot of content regarding Islam, but I believe, or perhaps at least hope that the US would still remain a democracy that values other people's views.

We must first of all know that the entire Bible is corrupted and unreliable and is mostly filled with man-made laws and corruption! "`How can you say, "We [the Jews] are wise, for we have the law of the LORD," when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?' (From the NIV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

The Revised Standard Version makes it even clearer: "How can you say, 'We are wise, and the law of the LORD is with us'? But, behold, the false pen of the scribes has made it into a lie. (From the RSV Bible, Jeremiah 8:8)"

In either translation, we clearly see that the Jews had so much corrupted the Bible with their man-made cultural laws, that they had turned the Bible into a lie!

See Also Deuteronomy 31:25-29 where Moses peace be upon him predicted the corruption/tampering of the Law (Bible) after his death.

The Book of Moses predicted that the Law (Bible) will get corrupted. The Book of Jeremiah which came approximately 826 years after did indeed confirm this corruption.

Say... a teacher teaches children about an historical event, but preempts the lesson with an announcement:

"I have to teach this to you and you have to memorize it and pass a test based on it. You don't have to remember it forever and you don't even have to believe it, but just memorize what I tell you long enough to pass a test and then you can believe it or disregard it at your pleasure".

Is that ok? Is it ok for teachers to add a disclaimer before teaching certain things they don't agree with?

I ask this because someone posted a story about a teacher who made a very similar announcement to a group of gradeschoolers, but it wasn't about an event in history... it was about evolution.

So... should teachers be allowed to do that?
