Negative theology is an approach to understanding God in terms of what He is not, rather than what He is. Unfortunately there isn't ultimately much difference in saying "God is infinitely good" as opposed to "God is not evil." The idea of negative theology is that any positive value or attribute assigned to God is still limited by our human understanding of it, and therefore diminishes Him. Of course, it could be argued that the contrary postulates of negative theology are equally limited.
