I tend to think that it is just a group of agnostics who say "hey, why can't everyone be right..." I feel that this is just an attempt to make everyone happy; everyone except for God, whoever he may be...

the bible is a book that shows how god has related with man and how man has constantly disobeyed god throughout the ages. the old testament is primarily written for the nation israel as they were the chosen people of god and that there were times when god used the nation israel as a tool to judge the sins of a nation. a holy and pure god cannot stand sin in his presence and will always judge sin. that is why he sent jesus christ to pay the price for mens sins so that all who believe will be redeemed to god. when jesus came the first believers were the jews and they had the opportunity to accept christ in which many did which made the first church but many didnt - judaist. The new testament is for today and some of the old because jesus fulfilled the requirements of the law and the prophecies of the old testament. in the book of joshua the nation was told to cross the jordan river, now does that mean i am supposed to go cross the jordan, no it is context of time , place, and people

I do.

I think Noah's ark is very analogous to the saving of men and animals. Also, Balaam's donkey seems to have found favor in the eyes of the angel of the Lord.

Do you feel (as a reader of the bible) that we are not getting the whole story. There were 3 gospels thar were rejected from the bible when it was compiled at the council of constantine. (That is true, not just from the Dacvinci code). One of which is trhe infancy gospel of thomas. In this gospel we here of jesus as a violent child who kills people who offend him. What do you think is the validity of this book.

For example, in a recent question,

.. it was asked about basically how this could be moral teaching.

And yet, one of the replies says that its in the OT and calls it history as though its something to be dismissed.

And yet, the OT is where genesis is.

So, how can genesis be correct but the very valid point of the immoral teachings be dismissed out of hand?

Why is it that only some things apply when you want them to?

I'm not wanting to attack anyone here, just genuinely curious... I'm English and I've noticed on YA that quite a lot of American atheists seem to say that they hide their atheism from other people, or their families, or that their families would be appalled if they found out and that there is religious proagganda around all the time. Is this really the case in the US? I find it weird, because in the UK, it's v. different-it's sort of the other way round, at least, it's seen as embarrassing to be a christian, and if someon'es kid converts, then everyone commiserates with the parents over it Our Prime Minister gets made fun of in the media too, for his Christianity (not badly, but a bit) SO what do you think are the differences at work here? If the US is a lot more Christian, why, when they have a lot of the same cultural aspects as England in other respects?
