That Christians think the world is divided into Christians and atheists with nothing in between (sound familiar?). I am an agnostic, thank you.

I have learned that although there are a small handful of Christians that I would love to have a long theological discussion with, the majority of them fall into three categories:

1. The proselytizing, insulting ones: "How can you deny God's/Jesus' love for you? Can't you see all the good things God has done? How can you deny God's work? If you would only give your soul to Him you would see!"

2. The Lemmings: "I know I'm right because the bible/Jesus/God/my pastor/my friends all say so. Besides here are a dozen passages from the bible that I will pass off as my own personal opinion because I cannot think clearly enough to form my own."

3. The Justified Haters: "I don't think slavery is right, and the Old Testament isn't serious anyway. But the New Testament is, and it says we should hate fags! God says they are an abomination! And it's so much better to bomb a Planned Parenthood and kill all those inside according to God's plan than to allow abortions! God will find a way to care for all the unwanted children!"

I see that a few have figured out that Christianity is simply a guide to be a good person, but that the vast majority try to use the bible as a weapon.

Hmm, I grew up Christian, so I haven't learned much that I didn't already know. For the most part I like Christians, but they do tend to rely on "here say" or others' interpretations of the Scriptures. There have been a few here who have actually expressed well thought out answers but ... well let me rephrase that, there are a minority of *people* here who ask or answer in a well thought out manner or at least a high school equivalent grasp of the facts.

Based on what I've seen here, I'm not in the least inclined to start believing again.

There are some issues that are fairly straightforward like no longer doing damage to others and not in any respect being too grasping, which maximum human beings are waiting to attraction to close with assistance from themselves, this stuff are protected in each and every of the major religions in a unmarried way or yet another, because each and every of the folk of the international have the means to reason and empathise. we are able to all study something from each and every man or woman we meet, regardless of their faith may be, or lack of. Christianity as a faith has it is nice factors and undesirable factors, notwithstanding the coolest factors are all issues which should be self obtrusive, so, i'm constructive there are countless man or woman Christians from who's own journey and perception absolutely everyone ought to study, an identical as absolutely everyone else, yet no longer fairly from Christianity, the religion:)

I'm an Atheist. From Christians I've learned different interpretations of various bible verses and themes in the Bible,

I've also learned that not all Christians are in the "religious right" but many are very liberal.

I've also learned a hard lesson, most don't like me because I'm an Atheist and no matter what my question they assume I'm trying to disconvert them, attack them, etc.

The most common assumption is I want to burn bibles and end religion.

I served four years in the military to defend the rights of Americans to have a freedom of religion, and never would want it taken away.

I've learned that they'll never pass up an opportunity to insult an atheist. (Or any other "Non-believer")
They don't appear to learn no matter how many times you answer the same question for them. They're stuck in a willfull ignorance that is disgusting. Example : Evolution and Pascal's Wager.
They are closed minded to the point of ignoring any evidence that doesn't agree with them and impervious to logic.
Their arrogance is beyond measure. The common response to everything is that it doesn't matter what anyone says. They KNOW the truth. Unwilling to see any other point of view.
They have a HUGE persecution complex that is almost amusing and somehow they actually think that although they have the majority of the power in the west, they're somehow being trod upon because they aren't allowed to force things on other people.
They're hateful of anyone who doesn't think exactly what they do.
I've learned that they appear blind to their own hypocrisy. They preach a message of love by using hate and fear.

All of these things and more have been underlined for me since coming to R&S. I seriously had no idea that Xians could be such horrible people until I came here.

While I'm not an atheist, per se, I can tell you what I have learned. That there are so many different types of Christians, all of whom belong to the right denomination, that there are going to be a lot of embarrassed people come judgement day. Let alone any of the other religions.
There's going to be a lot of spare room in Heaven.

It reinforces the reasons I don't discuss religion with my religious friends and co-workers. People get too emotional about the subject and often take a disagreement about religion as a personal attack. That is the good thing about this forum. I'm an Agnostic.

I haven't learned much. I was raised xtian so i know most of the stuff taught in church, Sunday school, and from the Bible. They've merely comfirmed and reinforced all my negative thoughts of them and thier bogus cult.

However, when I do ask a sincere Bible question, they are quite helpful in pointing out the proper passages. Unfortunately, these passages are often quite absurd and the idea that someone would believe these writings becomes more and more hilarious and sad.

That some of them really are stuck in the dark ages. I didn't know just how many Americans are actually Bible literalists and could hate homosexuals and other religious groups so much.

But that some are also good people, following Jesus' teachings and being peaceful and loving.

I'm not an atheist; I am only answering your question, which was directed specifically at atheists, because they constantly do the same, only usually in a much more rude tone.

Annoying, isn't it?
