In Christian mythology, the Holy Grail was the dish, plate, or cup used by Jesus at the Last Supper, said to possess miraculous powers.
The connection of Joseph of Arimathea with the Grail legend dates from Robert de Boron's Joseph d'Arimathie (late 12th century) in which Joseph receives the Grail from an apparition of Jesus and sends it with his followers to Great Britain; building upon this theme, later writers recounted how Joseph used the Grail to catch Christ's blood while interring him and that in Britain he founded a line of guardians to keep it safe.
The quest for the Holy Grail makes up an important segment of the Arthurian cycle, appearing first in works by Chrétien de Troyes. The legend may combine Christian lore with a Celtic myth of a cauldron endowed with special powers.
The development of the Grail legend has been traced in detail by cultural historians: It is a legend which first came together in the form of written romances, deriving perhaps from some pre-Christian folklore hints, in the later 12th and early 13th centuries.
The early Grail romances centered on Percival and were woven into the more general Arthurian fabric.

well you can talk about WHAT the holy grail could be, not just where. Sure the church decided that it was the cup jesus drank out of at the last supper(i think thats right?), but there are still people who speculate about it. So research the possibilities, find out what other people thought it was, hell it very well could have been mary magdilen or howver you spell her name hehe. Besides, you cant very well write a paper on the holy grail unles you know WHAT the holy grail is. Acctually is sounds like a pretty fun paper to write. So many options to chose from. Id say you have your work cut out for you, all you have to do is put it all together.

You want to look into mythology and find out what it really means (to search for the Holy Grail) and find other examples from other cultures.
For example, Joseph Campbell says the search for the Holy Grail is a search for love in response to dogmatic practices of the medieval Church.

Talk about its symbolic significance (e.g. the symbolism of the cup, blood of Christ, vessel, etc.)
Talk about the history of the Grail legend and the accounts which contain it
Talk about the various Grail theories, such as the Grail bloodline theory (for more info see "Bloodline of the Holy Grail" by Laurence Gardner and "Holy Blood, Holy Grail").

You could talk about the mythology versus the history. You could parallel the history of the knights Templar to the mythology of King Arthur and his knights. You could also expound on various theories of what the holy grail actually is. Watch the Da Vinci code, and you will find lots of mysteries and questions to talk about.

read up on the crusades, it was a big thing back in the time of the crusades, marshaling many to conquer the Holy Lands to secure it if I'm not mistaken. They basically want you to talk about how bad the crusades were and therefore how bad religion is, if you want to get an "A" just slam religion.

You could also talk about what it's made of. Some think copper, others wood. Some think it's the one that was placed in front of him at the last supper. The ones who think it's made of wood believe that it was made by Christ himself. There are tons of old wives tales about this. Most revolve around the knights Templar. They had supposedly found it and then stashed it in one of the knights monasteries, and it's not lost at all, just impossible to get to.

Many have believed they found the cup of Jesus in the city of Antioch.
After Jerusalem was taken over by the romans and the church destroyed the church in Antioch was the hub bub of Christianity.
Archeologists found a cup that was housed in a special box in the ruins of this church. Many believe it was the holy grail.
I read it was a cup within a cup. A plain cup inside of an ornate cup.
