religion is not about proving things. its not about saying "I am right because..." religion is about faith in things that cannot be proven. Stop asking us to prove what cannot... our knowledge comes solely from our souls and if you want your proof that God exists... you need to search deep in your heart and search for God, until then, you will never have proof... No proof unless you honestly seek it and want it to be true

That God helps those who help themselves?

What religion says is that our understanding of the sacred truths has been completed.

"Science's permanently revolutionary conviction that the search for truth never ends seems the only approach with sufficent humility to be worth of the universe that it revealed. The methodology of science, with it's error-correcting mechanism for keeping us honest in spite of our chronic tendencies to project, to misunderstand, to deceive ourselves and others, seems to be the height of spiritual discipline."

Carl Sagan and Ann Druyan in his latest book, "The Varieties of Scientific Experience, a person view for the search for God."

My girlfriend's parents are devoutly Catholic, and they have a problem with me because I'm an atheist. They try to get me to go to church with them weekly, and she has told me that her parents do not approve of me. My girlfriend isn't as fanatic as her parents, and I don't want this to be a reason for us to break up. I'm really just looking for a way to make her parents like me and see that I am a good person even though I don't share her beliefs. Any suggestions?

You can't.

This is the same question that atheists ask religious people all time but reworded. Seriously, start asking smarter, more philosophical questions instead of insulting this caricature of theists that most Christians and Muslims do not even share.

You are wrong if you disagree. Post your agreements.

I personally disagree to the most extreme way on atheist beliefs, because heck, they don't beleive in anything! I mean how can you go through everday knowing that if you die then you just rot in the ground, if you make sins that you will not be punished for it, that being a good person has no reward. It is quite depressing to think about. That there is no need for celebration. When you turn 16, it is just a regualr day, when Christmas comes with it's joy that you turn the other cheek. I really don't understand why they just don't believe. They can't honestly think that there are no miracles or that the earth just came about. What do you think?

When was it determined that evolution was changed from theory to Law?

Here is the definition according to Wikipedia Science Method:

Scientists use models to refer to a description or depiction of something, specifically one which can be used to make predictions that can be tested by experiment or observation. A hypothesis is a contention that has been neither well supported nor yet ruled out by experiment. A THEORY, in the context of science, is a logically self-consistent model or framework for describing the behavior of certain natural phenomena. A theory typically describes the behavior of much broader sets of phenomena than a hypothesis — commonly, a large number of hypotheses may be logically bound together by a single theory. A physical law or law of nature is a scientific generalization based on a sufficiently large number of empirical observations that it is taken as FULLY VERIFIED.

Evolution is still only a theory. It cannot be fully verified.

OK, they did this experiment where the families of certain sick/ injured people prayed to their loved ones and others did not. They found that because the victims realised that their families members prayed for them, they guessed that they were probably not likely to survive. As a result, their sickness/ injury slightly worsened.

True experiment. My uncle had a heart murmur and I prayed my heart out to him and yet he died.

which genesis should we teach, then?

the one with animals being created before man:
"And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image.... So God created man in his own image." (Genesis 1:25-27).

or the one with man being created before animals:
"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof." (Genesis 2:18-19 ).

or should we keep self-contradicting mythology out of science class?

"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death."
