Yes, I guess I consider myself this as well, though more humanist than anything. Before even _considering_ a god, we must learn to help each other. I tend to agree with the position that one's labels aren't half as important as one's actions.

Here's the website of the American Humanist Association. You might find something useful:

You are far from alone on this one. There are many who are raised Christian who doubt there is a God or afterlife. I am one of them. I call myself unsure - heehee

Because I was raised to believe it has taken me until 2 years ago to examine myself and realize that I was always fearful to say it's all superstition.

I do believe Christ once lived and as well as characters in the bible. And I can see why people believe in divinity.

But with today's knowledge I can also see why the bible could be a compilation of stories designed to bring order in the world.

Revelations which is oft quoted lately, sounds like the ramblings of a psychotic madman and if it were written today - we would haul him off in a strait-jacket.

Nah, it's not an organized thing. More a description of a belief system, similar to the way words like "behaviorist" or "optimist" would be. Some secular humanists do have meetings in larger urban areas. You can find that easily on the web.

Not By Might Nor By Power

“How much power must a god exhibit before you will bow down and worship”. That is the point. The true God does not require obeisance or the attitude it indicates. The true God requires service in kind.

Just what is service in kind? Obviously service in kind is to provide to God what God has provided to you.

OOPS just painted myself into a corner. For me service in kind may mean helping find things that are lost. God helps me find things in my life that are lost and perhaps he wants the same thing from me. When I started I was thinking about love but now I wonder if more is desired. The problem for me is just how I might accomplish this work of service.

I am Agnostic. Basically we believe that it is impossible to prove or disprove the existence of God and we are ok with that.

I am also a Humanist which is pretty much being moral and helping to further Humanity for the sake of doing so and not because you are afraid to go to hell or hoping to be reward in heaven.

I may need g o d in order to spell good but I don't need God in order to be good!

I probably fall closer under that label than anything, especially on the humanist bit.

Agnostic theist...hmm. Have you looked into Deism? That is, in some ways, along the lines of that same idea.

Do you really need a label? If you think there may be a God but your not fond of religion than you may be an agnostic deist like me. If you think that there is no way to know if there is a God, you may be agnostic. If you know for sure that there is no God, you are an atheist. If your IQ drops sharply then you are a christian fundamentalist.

Agnosticism is basically saying "there may be a God (or higher power), there may not be a God, i don't know, and it is not possible to KNOW if there is one or not". many ppl will confuse you with Aethists, who believe that they KNOW that there is no God. I am what i call an Optimistic Agnostic Humanist. basically meaning "I sure as hell hope theres something out there, but i don't know and can't know, but im still going to live my life as morally as possible and try to help others out as much as i can". and no, it's not a conversion, bc it's not a religion, it's just a belief. Agnosticism has no ideology, no dogma, no written beliefs. it's just saying " i don't know, and it's not possible to know".

I am that. You may find more about this in freemasonry. That's where humanism and agnosticism are being revered, and it's where the knowledge base is. You could simply approach a lodge and ask a member to talk to you. They'll be delighted, I'm sure. Not many members left these days. Unfortunately, women can't become freemasons, but you could join the Order of the Eastern Star.

Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater.... chuck "dead religion" but do not cast Jesus away... He could probably qualify as the best "theistic humanist" there ever was Himself (in the pure sense); He loved people and worked for their good always, even to the point of laying down His life to save theirs.
