"God helps those who help themselves" is probably the most often quoted Bible verse that actually is not in the Bible. In fact the Bible teaches the opposite. God helps the helpless! Isaiah 25:4 declares, "For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat..." Romans 5:6 tells us, "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly."

The many authors did write such a passage when creating the fictional book, however the proof readers saw that the comment would put the fictional characters (such as god and the other bloke) in a slightly bad light and it was edited out.

But its only a book and always open to adding more fables into it so there is no reason why you wouldnt be able to add an extra paragraph into it..... after all, thats whats happened over the centuries and now is not a reason to stop doing it !.

So what's the point of god helping. If I've helped myself, than the work is done and i don't agree with a god getting the credit for it.
Please don't read the Bible...surely you have something better to do with your time?

There is no place in the Bible that said that. My grandmother always said it. I asked the Pastor, and he said that it isn't in there. It is something that has been said more than a 100 years ago. That is what my Great-grandfather told my grandmother.

Nowhere, that is just an old saying, just like cleanliness is next to godliness. There not in the Bible.

It means that people who actually do something rather than wait for mythology to do it for them get results. As it makes sense and is TRUE, it cannot be in the bible.
