Some of us stare at truth but fail to recognize its identity.

I know what truth is.
Just curious what you think it is to you?

So many thousands of issues he could have philosophised on if he wanted to?

Abortion was done then, Aristotle can meantion it and make a ruling on it but Jesus can't?
Abusing children, even molesting them, Kings took slave boys back then, Jesus had no opinion?
Hurting animals? Jesus doesn't seem to care.
Forcing slaves? Jesus stayed neutral

It's really hard to ask WWJD? When he really didn't have many staitforward opinions on many horrifying criminal activities...
oh, but he did meantion not to get a divorce: woopie.

If one studies history, the canon came together rather arbitrarily and, even then, some books were highly disputed (while other circulating manuscripts were left out.) Perhaps the highly-organized denominations (Catholic, Orthodox, LDS) should convene new councils and eliminate those books most obviously linked to hate, fear and strife. It has been done before -- Catholic, Jewish and Protestant Bibles all have different selections in them. Even now, it is not monolithic. It's not hard to imagine a much-more benevolent religion with the elimination of just three or four books.

Other than blind faith and your copy of the bible, what evidence do you have that there is a God? Maybe you believe you will be judged in the after life, but what proff do you have? Maybe you believe the world was created by a bearded giant, but what proof do you have? Maybe you believe God had a son who walked on water, but what proof do you have? And in the absence of evidence, what separates God from Santa Clause or the Tooth Fairy? And don't give me this crap about there's no proof he does NOT exist, therefore he does exist. That's crazy. There's also no proof that monkeys write poetry when no one is around. My guess is that does't happen. So where is the proof of God?

it's all white with people playing harps and lame music. i think my heaven would be more like a black metal concert and if heaven is all white cloudy and lame i think i would just rather go to hell because no pain is worst to me than harps and clouds and white floaty things.

what do you think

If so, then how can people demand purely "empirical" reasons for religious belief? We have other faculties for knowing besides the rational intellect...

My mother is christian, I'm not, im actually wiccan but I can't tell my mom that. She's one of those strict/selfish christians who believes in what they say is right and that the parents have the right to beat thier child to make them better (though my mom happens to do it whenever shes mad and i happen to do anything she doesn't like) plainly put it my mother is a you know what, so much that I decided I was never going to be christian.
But I'm afraid to tell her this because she would go off and beat the crap out of me, now Im not sure if this is the right place to put it, but I need serious help, my mother is trying to get me baptised and doing things in church (urgh) k so yeah, any advice as to how I make it to my eighteenth birthday without killing myself?? Not to mention the fact that I'm bisexual and my mom threw out my book of shadows last week (im going to kill her for that i can assure you)

I'm just curious how I would go about converting. There is a mormon church about 5 blocks away from my house. I've studied this religion for almost 7 years and I keep coming back to it. I believe in it and have had the wish to convert before.

In our everyday experience, just about everything seems to have a beginning. In fact, the laws of science show that even things which look the same through our lifetime, like the sun and other stars, are running down. The sun is using up its fuel at millions of tonnes each second—since, therefore, it cannot last forever, it had to have a beginning. The same can be shown to be true for the entire universe. So when Christians claim that the God of the Bible created the entire universe, some will ask what seems a logical question, namely ‘Where did God come from?’ The Bible makes it clear in many places that God is outside of time. He is eternal, with no beginning or end—He is infinite! He also knows all things, being infinitely intelligent. Is this logical? Can modern science allow for such a notion? And how could you recognize the evidence for an intelligent Creator?

In your opinion................

If I behaved in a Christian way, lived my life by the bibles teachings, behaved as a fully commited Christian and spread the word of God among others but in my heart and head did not believe for a second in the existance of God, where would I end up?

If I was a complete a s s my whole life, told people that God was a figment of their imaginations and that they were delusional for believeing in such nonsense, denied his existance to all who would listen but privately begged for forgiveness in prayer every night and truely believed in my heart and my head that he exisited, where would I end up?

Karma.

2. that is violent, racist, incendiary, or otherwise objectionable.

we all know that christianity is the most violent religion of all time, so there's that, and telling everyone they're going to burn in hell tends to piss people off, and i'd call that incendiary.

There is a mistranslation of Isaiah's Hebrew for young woman (almah) It got translated into the Greek for virgin(parthenos).

Now 'almah' means young woman in hebrew, ha'almah means the young woman. 'Almah' does not mean virgin or does 'ha'almah' mean the virgin, neither mean virgin.

So why do Christians keep on believing Mary was a virgin when Jesus was conceived, when that's clearly not the case here?

Mary was a young woman when Jesus was conceived.

This does mess up the whole Mary was a virgin when she had Jesus story. Most Christians do know that there is a error in the translation.. So why do they keep insisting that Mary was a virgin when she had Jesus, even when they know that is not the case..

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.
The courage to change the things I cannot accept and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill today because they got on my nerves Also, help me to be careful of the toes I tread on today as they may be connected to the feet I have to kiss tomorrow.
Help me to always give 100% at work...
12% on Monday
23% on Tuesday
40% on Wednesday
20% on Thursday
and 5% on Friday
and help me to remember.
When I'm having a really bad day and it seems that people are really trying to wind me up, it takes 42 muscles to frown, 28 to smile and only 4 to extend my arm and smack someone in the mouth!

Amen

God didn't want us to know about good or evil, he doesn't want us to study the angels or the hierarchy of heaven, he doesn't even want us to think for ourselves. God wants us to follow his dictates blindly, without question or thought.

Why would God give us free will and a powerful mind to deny us the ability to use the extent of it?
Why does God want us to be ignorant?
How can anyone respect a God who wants his followers to be ignorant?

I've learned about the kosher diet in detail and it seems strict. In fact it sounds easier to be a vegetarian or vegan than follow the kosher diet. So I was wondering if anyone in the Jewish community here could honestly say that they don't follow all their kosher rules, or have even tried pork?
