At least in Western culture, there is a well-understood principle of Freedom of Conscious -- that is, we are all free to hold our beliefs without interference from the government, our employers, or even our friends and family.

When does this go too far? When is it acceptable to question or even reticule another person's faith? Is there a line that can be crossed?

I mean, if you compare "Dr." Hovind's beliefs on creation and evolution with modern scientific thought, this is the only explanation one could come up with. What do you think?

Koran (9:11 ) - For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. Th e wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

(Note the verse number!)

This has been circulating on the net. Is it a real passage? Just curious.

I was reading an article on the Rwandan Genocide about a Roman Catholic priest who abandoned his congragation after his attempts to save them from the hutu militia failed. They ordered him to leave or else he would be killed. He 'blessed' his church and left them to die. Now more Rwandan's are turning to Islam because of the shameful role christianity played during the genocide. My question is who would do what the priest did? Honestly, God knows I don't know what I'd have done. I understand his fear, I mean who can't. But sitting here right now I really don't know what I'd have done and I just had to ask someone. How many people would be willing to risk their lives for others (especially if u claim christianity and in a genocide)

Do athiests believe that murder is neither good nor bad? From what I understand, the idea of murder being bad comes from religious belief. The idea that humans have a soul, or that only god can determine when someone lives or dies, all stem from religion. Animals do not believe in god, and they show indifference to murder within their own species. Therefore, if religion didn't exist, the idea of murder being evil would not have been created.

So if an atheist thinks murder is evil or bad, aren't they indirectly believing in a higher power?

I like to hear from some atheists on this matter! Let's discuss!

On a second note, (maybe for another question) aren't most laws of man derived from religion? Wouldn't atheists be against most of those?

Christmas, or Christ-mas, is a Christian Holiday (Holy-day) celebrating the birth of Christ. So why do so many people who aren't Christian celebrate it? It's kind of like me, celebrating Black History Month. Has it lost all its value, so now everyone can celebrate it?

The catholic church made it official dictrine that gods existence can be proven with reason and most christians (non catholic as well) seem to feel that way. But as soon as it is hard to defend a specific point about christianity, then it's all about "faith," and not man's own mental ability to reason. Isn't that circular logic?
every time a christian tries to tell you they KNOW that he exists they cite that they felt him in their life and he got them through life's hurdles. Do atheists not have "hurdles" that they have weathered to be here alive and well?

As of this posting, only 2 Christians had answered in a way that most atheists would find to be non-inflammatory.

If you consider yourself to be an accepting, loving, open minded, non-judgmental kind of person, explain why you believe so differently from the ones who don't.

Christianity is Christianity. You all read the same book. Why the discrepancies in the way you think?

I'm truly interested.

I've noticed alot of Christian people around in my area that get married super young...like around 19 or 20. Personally I don't want to get married until I'm alot older and certain that I have found the right person. Why do they get married so young? I honestly think it's so they can start having sex lol.
