Matthew 4 describes Jesus' time in the Wilderness, and the temptation of the devil. One of the passages I've never understood, is in verse 9 Satan offers all the kingdoms of the world to Jesus. What is this all about? Could someone explain this?

I mean, are the kingdoms of the worlds Satan's property to give? Is he referring to nations? World-leaders? And if so, what does this say about politicians...? I'd appreciate some clarity.

8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 "All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
10 Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'[d]"

I know it is a non-profit out reach supplying quality food worth about $50-$60 for the cost of $25 and it is open to all regardless of income.

Is anyone involved with a distribution site? Is it well recieved in your community? How do you get your deliveries?

I have checked out the website:
http://www.angelfoodministries.org/

but I'd like to know more about how it works in your church/organization.

If premarital sex is bad because of the problems it can cause, such as STD's, then why did god create std's? And, if god created std's to punish people who have impure sex, then why was sex wrong in the first place?

Here's a quote from my last post, "God didn't "make" STDS, but sex is wrong before marriage" What makes sex before marriage wrong? who is it hurting?

If you do, what do you think of pastors getting paid to preach? Jesus clearly says NOT to get paid for preaching. I believe this was because it causes a conflict of interests - you are not likely to tell the congegration something unpleasant, but that they need to hear, because they will simply stop coming and giving money to the church and you are out of a job. What are your thoughts on this?

Is there any real discussions going at these meetings? Can anyone actually disagree with the pastor or other coordinator? Or are they just meetings where the good ol' boys get together for an hour or two that is sanctioned by their wives?

Because life is in a usual process, live and die. In our life, we start as a kid, go to school, work , get married and become a senior citizen. But is it enough to get a good financial status? Or a fun loving family? After death, will we see our family again? There is no proof of anything right? Please share you idea.

It seems to me that a lot of Chrisitan counseling has very little to do with psychology or counseling -- but more to do with how clergy people (often men) interpret the scriptures as far as they apply to our daily lives. Can pastors do more harm than good in certain instances? Can they brainwash their flock?

the hugely elitist attitude in this category. some of you, and i'll refrain from naming names, only choose best answers for your friends which you feel are somehow better. i've seen excellent answers skipped over in favor of the asker's friend. so what's up with that?

It would seem that if they really believed there was no God they wouldn't even be interested enough to care.
It's as if they have a driving force to disprove the existence of God.Oh let's see now ...could that force be..... satan?

2 examples:

If you have someone who helps everybody, gives freely of themself, makes daily commitments to be a better person and try and do the best they can without doing anything bad, yet they don't believe in God?

Or.... you have someone who believes in God, constantly makes mistakes, does not bother to help people but feels sorry about it later, hurts people by losing their temper, and repents later....

Now, according to what most people say the person that believes in God will go to heaven because they believe in God, while the other person who always does God will not because you must believe in God to go to heaven. ("Works alone are not enough")

I was waking up to the Today Show this morning and they had a story about a man that claims to be the second coming of Jesus. People are giving this man so much money that he is buying sports cars and huge estates. He is literaly living like a king. What do you think of him? Do you believe he is the second coming of Jesus? I looked for a link but apparently they don't put them up until 11am my time. The link to the Today Show is: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032633/
but as I said the story hasn't been posted yet.

I am Catholic, and I respect most of the religions of the world, especially other christians. But I have a question. Most Christians are very loud about their love of Jesus, and their "accepting Jesus as their personal Savior", but then why are they in religions founded by mere men? Why not be in a religion that was founded by Jesus himself? Yes that's right, Jesus founded the Catholic faith, and I do not understand why more people do not realize that.
