well it's going to differ depending on who ur talikng to, if u ask a christian they will say son of god without hesitation and if u ask a muslim they will say prophet without any hesitation.
I am a muslim so I say he is a prophet because god can have no son or daughter!
But if u ask an atheist if they did believe in god would they find Jesus (pbuh) being son of god more beliveable or being a prophet more believable, then u will probably get a somewhat fair answer

Jesus was both, and so much more. John 6:14 is about him being the prophet. You can also use the woman at the well. When Jesus told her all things that she ever did. Thats the Prophet. When God spoke down from Heaven and said this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Hebrews 4:14- shows that he is the great high priest as well, and the son of God.

He is the Son of God & was a prophet also, why do you think when he told the woman at the well to give him a drink & Jesus said go get your husband, & she said I don't have any husband, & Jesus said that hast said well, but you have 5 & the one you are living with now is not your husband. And the woman said I perseive that you are a Prophet.

Both. The term prophet indicates an oracle or "one who speaks for God" but the term 'son' is more complex. According to hindue philosophy the 'son' means divine union or super consciousness. This is the state Jesus had, therefore he was called the son to signify that type of closeness to God.

what about this question
"Did Jesus Christ Really Live?"
http://www.infidels.org/library/historical/marshall_gauvin/did_jesus_really_live.html
This is the real question that should be asked in bible class. try it. They will say something like this "The question isnt wether Jesus lived or not, that has been established by most scholars The real question people deal with is wether he told the truth of not".
That is done so as to ignore the REAL question. Trickery with words. Christians are quite good lawyers..
Go on. ask it in class next time, see how accurate i am.
And I am no prophet.

Jesus was the Messiah, not a mere prophet. Spiritually he was unique being that he was one with God, so in a sense you can say he was the "Son of God."
Messiah is Hebrew meaning 'the chosen one' or 'the annointed one'. The word Christ is Greek meaning the same thing. Calling him Jesus Messiah is the same as saying Jesus Christ.

Jesus was not a prophet, "in the sense of the word". He was the ultimate teacher and saviour. He is the Son of God sent here to save us all in an ultimate sacrifice for all mankind.
