i read abook written by Allison Dubois--who is supposedly gifted with the ability to communicate with those who are in a different dimension. I lost my father 6 yrs ago. We had a difficult relationship because I was always fiercely independent and he had a struggle w/not being able to mold me. He was a good father and in the last yr of his life, we were "coming around," and I was able to bend a little--he did too. Then it was all over like a split second. i'm a mom now and understand him much better. I wish there was a real way to communicate w/him--to know that he is at peace and still around us. I want to believe it, but there is a skeptical part in me. Has anyone out there actually had contact w/a deceased loved one? Please respond. thanks.

The below question is regarding slavery.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/?qid=20060808075007AAtv2Iv&pa=FYd1D2bwHTHwIb9mEOI9Qf5RXxYJFGg3CGkj0k9Xb.i_jA--&msgr_status=
In it I demonstrate that Moses is claiming that in Leviticus 25:44 that it is permissible to have slaves. I demonstrate in Exodus 21:20-21 that this form of slavery is the same as was in the Untied States in the 1860s, the use of the word property, the master beating the slave and not being punished if the slave lived.

I call into question, since many of us believe that we can not take Moses's word regarding his talks to God, since many of us do not believe a just God would make slavery permissible, the following:

Leviticus 18:22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. (NKJV)

How can we trust Moses regarding this issue that God really said this to him? Isn't there room for doubt and a need to search our heart regarding this issue and not rely solely on Leviticus 18:22?

Christians deal with it by dumping it in the God box
but Atheists usually come up with a logical explanation

Why can't Christians come up with logical explanations like Atheists do?

Leviticus 25:44 And as for your male and female slaves whom you may have—from the nations that are around you, from them you may buy male and female slaves. (NKJV)

So some of the people I talk to dispute that the God of the Bible told this to Moses, since we feel slavery is immorral. This calls into question Moses's intergrity. It has been stated here on yahoo answers that slavery was different then. There has been some answers to my questions telling me that these Christians are lieing, that slavery back then was no different then that it was in 1800s America. See Exodus 21:20-21 (NKJV)
20 “And if a man beats his male or female servant with a rod, so that he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. 21 Notwithstanding, if he remains alive a day or two, he shall not be punished; for he is his property

Would any Christian like to defend the position that God said to Moses it was ok to have slaves? And the owner could beat the slave with a rod and not be punished?

1st amendment

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

I am an atheist

Our Christian forefathers understood the importance of keeping government out of the business of religion. Religious persecution is what led pioneers here for in the first place. Over time, newer christians lost sight of that ideal of "the seperation of church and state" and have used a loophole that they can endorse a "generic god" instead.

A technicality that allows them to force their "generic god" AKA the christian god in sheep's clothing on atheist-american cash, pledge to my country, and on government owned property and monuments.

This invasion of my government by fundamentalists is the ONLY reason I come to the religious section of yahoo answers, otherwise I don't care what people "just believe".

My Question:
Isn't endorsing a "generic god" the same as endorsing a religion, and therefore a violation of the first amendment?

I have read that Hitler used a certain book to form his ideals from and get his direction.(I know he was a bad guy) Like some use books today to form a certain personality or religious belief. What was the name of the book that Hitler used? Don't say the Bible either, that was not it.
