Why is it when something tragic happens in your life or there are wars around the world and people starving etc and you ask a religious person "if God existed why did he let this happen?", they then come up with a ridiculous excuse that doesn't justify it? It's so annoying! It's like they've been brainwashed to come up with the same answer. What do you think?

Deuteronomy 21:15-16 If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons but the firstborn is the son of the wife he does not love, when he wills his property to his sons, he must not give the rights of the firstborn to the son of the wife he loves in preference to his actual firstborn, the son of the wife he does not love.

2 Samuel 5:13 (also 1 Ki 11:3)

After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.

Abraham and Sarah were half-brother and sister (Genesis 20:12)
Moreover, Isaac and Rebekah were second cousins (Genesis 22:20ff.; 24:4) and Jacob was wed to the daughters of Laban, his mother’s brother (Genesis 24:43),

obviously the bible said Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve, but I guess it was ok to sleep with your family!!

My ex wife is a Christian and she is the the ultimate b*tch demon from Hell.
The only reason she was allowed to roam the Earth is that Satan was uncomfortable when she was around him.

Message: trust me there are many christians on Yahoo Answers that are hateful and bigoted and some are out right nazi if ya ask me and if you think christianity is full of love read what some of the fundamentalist say about gays and atheist all the time then you will understand why i am not a christian

My response:
I am sorry that others have treated you badly in the name of Christ. I do think that Christianity is full of love but part of love is not always fun - like when a parent punishes a child for doing wrong in order to teach that child to do right. I do not agree with the choices gay people and aethiests have made as I believe these choices do not match up with what God would have us do, but I do not harshly judge nor condemn them to Hell. That is not my job. I hope this explanation helps you in some way.

I know a few atheist women who are happy more often than not, have a great sense of humor, don't generally get easily pissed off. I know quite a few believing women who are constantly depressed, have a poor outlook on life and sense of humor.

I'm not talking about being Jewish. I'm talking about being a Zionist.
There is a big difference!

Late last year, Penn Jillette (the magician/juggler) wrote an essay for NPR's "This I Believe" segment for Morning Edition. It's a compelling short piece, and in it he says:

"Believing there is no God means the suffering I've seen in my family, and indeed all the suffering in the world, isn't caused by an omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent force that isn't bothered to help or is just testing us, but rather something we all may be able to help others with in the future. No God means the possibility of less suffering in the future."

The link is below, where you can read the essay or download the audio. I'm anxious to read your comments.
