The Bible says we should turn the other cheek, then later it says and eye for an eye.. well which one is it?

I don't have proof that a pink and green spotted weasel that makes rain doesn't live under my porch (I can't see in there), so does that make itn acceptable avenue to explore for the cause of rain? Should I ignore all meteorological "proof" (bastard scientists, what do they know?) simply because I can't prove the weasel isn't there?

You can apply this metaphor to any situation where religion bumps against science: Evolution vs Creationism, the existance of god, etc. Take your pick.

By birth I am not Jewish, I am Eastern Orthodox. Going through life, I discover more and more that I question and disagree with certain aspects of religion. For example, I'm pro-choice. I don't believe that suicide pulls you straight down to hell if you've lived a good life. I think people should be free to believe and worship as they like and not be scorned for it. Much of this contradicts the strict Orhodox ideals. I think there is something more powerful and great beyond us and our existence and people shouldn't fight over what to call it, rather observe the similarities between themselves.
Not long ago, I took a test and found out that lots of my ideas match up with Reform Judaism. I don't think I will "convert" but I'd like to learn more about this religion.
I'd be grateful for any input.

I have 2 pets in the house, stinky the possum and my cat doe doe . We live an ok life but i feel that god is UNFAIR since my ugly looks got me this type of life. This is why i wont bow down to a god.

Also I was told that If I offer my body to homless people for sex that in a way i am helping them because they dont ever have human interaction. Argus says he doesnt mind

One out of the many answers actually made me think... alot.
"Sounds likes me just before I became an Atheist. Whoever wrote that is one step away, maybe two if you count the Agnostic phase."

Let me tell you what I belive in:

I don't belive that the bible was this otherworldly book that was written by man with the power of god to instruct us on how to live our lives. I think it was a great story told that has been interpreted in many different ways (hence the different religions)

I DO belive that there is something... another plane of exsistance after we die. Not some supreme being that is going to judge me and smite me for what i've done in my life.

Should both Darwin's theory of evolution, which most scientists believe in, as well as the idea that Darwin's theory is wrong and that God created everything, which maybe 1-2% of the scientists believe in, also be taught in public school or at least something written in the school science book that states as follows: "most scientists believe in Darwin's theory of evolution, but there are other scientists who belive by their observation of the world and by their inference that the world was created by God and that the theory of evolution has never been proven."

Many religious do not believe in anything that contradicts their faith. However, nothing about Evolution demands that GOD does not exist.

Do you agree?

"The rabbis teach their fellow Jews that their Gentile neighbors are spiritually and morally unclean; that they are subhuman, on a level with the beasts of the field; and that they hate Jews and must be hated in return. Jews are taught that the Christian religion is a religion fit only for animals, and that its founder, Jesus, was the son of a prostitute and is presently immersed in a pit of boiling excrement in hell".

I know it's not seasonal at all, but one of the other questions really rubbed me wrong. I mean, there are several religious and secular holidays between Thanksgiving and the Epiphany. So why does a Wal mart cashier's saying "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas" mean that we're losing the meaning of Christmas?

Atheists and theists: just admit once and for all that none of us know anything about God or the lack there of, so that we can all move forward with humanity and put our efforts into larger endeavors.

if this is the case, then why do some say that if I don't choose or accept (insert religion here) then (insert suffering here) will happen? It seems to be a contradiction.

Please - this is a sincere and honest question; this is what largely contributes to my confusion.

I continue to see you telling Christians to think for themselves. The choice to serve God is a choice that we have made by thinking it. Our minds do not conclude that the universe came out of nowhere by itself, which is a scientific and mathmatical impossibility. We apply teachings that come from the bible and see the benefits of it, and after THINKING about it we come to the conclusion that it only makes logical sense that there must be a designer behind the gift of life. Since doing what He says is obviously working out well for us, and making us happy we continue in this path. True Christians do think for themselves by choosing not to ignore the abundant evidence that shows there is a Creator. Have you all never asked anyone else's opinion? Are you so haughty and proud of yourselves as to believe that you can never learn anything from another person? I think it's time that you all start doing some serious thinking, and stop flattering yourselves with your own ideas.
