I think you won the argument here.Good points.Religions are poison for souls that are hungry for something to follow. When we stop needing something to follow we can start to lead.People should really find the difference between inner spirituality and religion.Religion dictates and even lies about truth and is in fact a cult on many levels.Whereas inner spirituality is to be at peace with yourself and to know yourself.

Amen and Halleleuja.
Not to pick any particular religion, but consider Mormonism, which believes that Jesus married English women after he died on the Cross, and thats why the English have always been so advanced. Then He visited America and taught the locals to build pyramids. Tens of millions of people believe this. Absurd? They don't think so. It just seems to be the numbers that make the difference, not the core beliefs.

A cult differs a great deal from the foundational teachings of a substantial faith. It contradicts or revises what has been taught, traditionally, for the duration of historic past. A sect is a team that breaks off of a substantial team in basic terms to alter a definite prepare. working example, re. baptism, would desire to a guy or woman be baptized by sprinkling, in an excellent physique of water, as a baby or an person? In Buddhism, would desire to Buddha be worshipped or would desire to one merely persist together with his ethical teachings? In Islam, does the chief of Islam would desire to be from Muhammed's kin or can he be appointed? No substantial faith, no remember how prevalent, has survived if it did no longer have a complication-unfastened scripture which all of us accompanied. that's why the religions of Rome, Greece, and Egypt died out. maximum of your ideas ought to be transposed. the two cults and "genuine religions" look after that they have an prompt pipeline to god. check out and learn. shop an open ideas. in case you compromise with something, i desire it has to do with a sort heart and doing no harm to others.

the conclusion I think you are trying to lead to (that they are the same) is good, but I don't fully agree with your angle.
That aside -- a cult is the name for a religion with a small following. Most religions today were called "cults" at their birth.
Cults are slandered because they are the minority. Not all new religions are bad just because some were. Some do sincerely seek the truth, not just money.

The first thing that came to my mind was tax exemption - so I'm wondering if there are any IRS workers out there that could tell us the code they follow in allowing, or not allowing, tax exemption.

Well if you're real fanatical and order your followers to kill themselves and they do. then it is considered a cult. But no there really are no differences in them.

A QUESTION has a question mark at the end of it and invites input from others.
YOUR QUESTION has a point to prove and no room for responses.
