if this is the case, then why do some say that if I don't choose or accept (insert religion here) then (insert suffering here) will happen? It seems to be a contradiction.

Please - this is a sincere and honest question; this is what largely contributes to my confusion.

You're looking for a path, try looking for a destination. All roads lead to everywhere, it's the intersections that are dangerous. There is an ancient riddle about a man at a crossroad (he may be the guide you need). That man, lived in a place where everyone told the truth, always, or a place where everyone lied, always. The riddle is, with only one question, get him to reveal the road from that intersection, to the place where no one lies. Remember, you don't know which place he comes from.

The answer is; ask him to tell you where he comes from. If he's a lyer, he will indicate the road to the place where no one lies. If he's an honest man, he will indicate the road to the place where no one lies. He's trapped. You're not.

Only God tells the truth, always. And the devil is always a lier. Ask either one where the come from, and they will indicate the heaven described in the Bible. Go there. Take the road either one indicates. Spiritual guides are a dime a dozen, and they don't have to be right. You just have to know the right questions, and stop judging.

The beginning of faith is to believe that God exists and that he rewards those who honestly seek him. So, if you're looking for God, that's a great start. And the good news is that God has revealed himself. However, you're going to find religions out there who will tell you conflicting things. Some religions will say, "God did this," and other religions will deny it, and it will happen that you must make a choice whom to believe. The truth -- God, that is -- is out there, but you have to be discerning. God does guide people to himself, but it's the people who actually follow his guidance that make it home.

First of all the term religion is derived from"religo" means ritual or good faith in a more general term. Religion is not the key to spirituality. Find something that will lead you to grow spiritually. At the end of the day, there is only one God. He has been called many names. Dont look for him elsewhere. Look for him inside you

I believe that god is on your side as long as you have fun in life and make the most out of what was given to you.
All religions have been taught by people to people, so half of what you learn there is their personal opinion.
If somebody comes to your door to recruit you into his religion, which happens to believe that only a chosen 40 people go to heaven, how sincere do you think he will be to have you become his competition?
God will guide you, just listen to Him, not his self-elected chosen people...

2 Peter 3:9 says that God is patient. He doesn't desire any to be destroyed and his patience affords opportunities for many to attain to repentance. God's desire is for all sorts of men gain salvation by coming to an accurate knowledge of him. At John 17:3, Jesus said, "This means everlasting life their taking in knowledge of you, the only True God and the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ". This indicates that it takes effort on your part. There are three things that are needed in a search for the True God. An honest heart, humility, and a hunger for truth.

The apostle Paul made an interesting comment about God at Acts 17:27, he said "...seek God, ....grope for him and really find him, although, in fact, he is not far off from each one of us." James 4:8 says "Draw close to God and he will draw close to you." Like I mentioned, it does take effort. God has requirements for his servants. In your "quest to find a religion" I hope that you will review this information with an open mind, without prejudice.

Well it's like this. First of all, I don't know who says that it is guaranteed that God will guide every person in their spiritual quest to find a religion. I don't find that in the Bible. That sounds like something that someone made up that sounds good.

God will call those people whom He has chosen to Christ and all of those who are not called will not be with God in Heaven after they die. You may wonder where I find that in the Bible, so thanks for asking.

John 6:43 Jesus answered them, "Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.

Romans 9:14 What shall we say then? Is there injustice on God's part? By no means! 15 For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." 16 So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." 18 So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills. 19 You will say to me then, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?"

20 But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, "Why have you made me like this?" 21 Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honored use and another for dishonorable use? 22 What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23 in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory-- 24 even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?
