I'm not a Christian. I used to be once upon a time, but I was also a Taoist too.
It's interesting that you mention the Pledge of Allegiance. The simple fact is that the "under God" part was an insertion done during to Cold War to foster a greater out-group bias toward the Soviets and any other communist countries. They were said to be "godless commies" and therefore evil, lacking in any morality whatsoever and so on and so forth. In essence it was a propaganda move, nothing more.
Christmas is not a completely Christian holiday to begin with. The exchange of gifts, the tree, the decorations and so forth were all borrowed from previous celebrations such as Saturnalia. It was this fact that caused the Puritans to ban the celebration for nearly a decade. To celebrate the "birth of Jesus" in December is ridiculous as the bible clearly states in it's little story that the shepherds were out tending their flocks at night - this means it had to be summer or spring not fall and definitely not winter. The decision to make it December 25th was done long ago so that it coincided with other pagan celebrations.

No. And the Pledge of Allegiance isn't Christian. The phrase "Under God" was added during the McCarthy craze to try to seem better than the Russians. This country was founded on freedom of religion. Our forefathers were trying to break away from the religious persecution the British were placing on them. Do some research.
Christmas is a Christian holiday...it should stay as so.... Most of these concerns need to be looked at from someone elses eyes. How would you feel if you were Bhuddist or Muslim and going out on "Christmas Break" instead of "Winter Break." I know it's hard to see with the blinders on, but take them off for a minute and open your mind and realize there are other people out there who don't have the same beliefs as you and that is OKAY. Didn't God tell you to love your neighbor? :) I do, and I totally respect religion, but I don't like it when it's forced on others.
EDIT for Sarge: "Under God" implies a single diety. What about those religions that have multiple dieties?
"Under God" WAS put in with Christian/Catholic influences. Do YOUR research and look it up. McCarthyism put this in place during the Cold War...

Have you ever heard the phrase/ song," God Bless America"? What other Nation on Earth has their money embossed with the words, "In GOD we trust?. What country has spread the Gospel thru out the Earth. What other country is always their to lend support after a natural disaster? Yes, their are quite a few Christains left in this great country of ours. Don't worry, God is still in control, and no Aethist is going to bully us out of our Pledge of Allegiance.
As for a post script... Christ was concieved on Dec 24th, not born. Signed a Christain,, Lupe H

The Pledge Of Allegiance is not a pledge to Christianity. "One nation under God" does not specify the Christian God.
You may change your tune if you found out that God had nothing to do with the creation of the Bible. Use your God-given intellect and do a research. He did not put that brain in your head for you to just follow something blindly.

I believe in God and Christ, but don't agree with all of the teachings of Christianity. This country was founded on the beliefs of Christianity and so we should NOT change the Pledge of Allegiance.
