I think for most part of the world, drugs ,like cocaine, narcotic, etc., are considered illegal and are completely ban from society. Drugs are known scientifically that are 'very' bad to body, and it may be fatal as well. Cigarettes are also proved to be bad for health and are also proved to cause a lot of chronic and fatal illness to people. However, they can be legally sold in most part of the world. Why? Why can't we treat cigarettes like what we treat drugs by completely banning from society? On the contrary, if we can sell cigarettes as commercial goods, like TVs, by those big company, why can't they sell drugs like cigarettes in society as well? In US, I don't think that there is constitution right like owning weapon (guns) for cigarettes. So we cannot prohibit people from owning guns but is it possible to ban cigarette legally since it is just other commercial products like TVs.

It seems that the U.S. is declining into an era of anti-intellectualism that is very disturbing to me. I hear more and more in elections that the voters want a "man of the people," but aren't our leaders supposed to be the best and the brightest? It seems ridiculous to me that while the other nations of the world are electing these tremendously bright minds to lead them, we force our politicians to play dumb to gain favor with us.

For example, I was watching Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, and he talks about how he became aware of global warming in college. Gore went to college at Harvard, but he goes out of his way to never say the word Harvard in the entire film because people look at that as elitist. Shouldn't we expect our leaders to be smarter than us?

Am I missing something, because I don't think that the President needs to be handsome and hip as much as intelligent and qualified?

Can someone explain the logic in this? I mean come on it's a piece of ham. It's not like it is going to kill them if it was around them. Although that would be funny ham having the same effect as a cross does to vampires in the movies.

What next ham, pepperoni, or any other pork product will be prohibited in schools. As to curb anymore "hate crimes" involving said tasty meat. This country gets more and more ridiculous every year.

Why is it, the more I try to treat people as I would like to be treated, do the right thing,and try to be just and fair, I seem to really get the shaft.
By the same token, why does it seem like the bigger a liar or a backstabber or a gossipmonger you are.. the better off those people are and the further they go in life?
I try to teach my kids my way of doing things..but so often it seems they'd have better luck being a POS than a good person..any thoughts on this?

Every day I find that the questions here are well ... random & down right dumb some times, but today, for some reason, takes the cake!! It can't be that I'm especially sarcastic and or simply easily annoyed today ... is today like, ooooohhhh, I dunno, "The freaks come out at night" day or something? I am in high school and I really want to make friends and be happy, but there are always people who are so mean. I know I should ignore them and continue with my own life but there are times when they would do mean things such as shove me, tease me, and ignore me. I know how people say eventually those kinds of people will become janitors or fast food workers, but the people I'm talking about are smart and really popular. Sometimes I feel jealous that they're so happy in high school but will still probably live a really good life later on. I try to ignore them and live my own life but I can't when they're so mean. Is it wrong for me to feel so depressed and jealous?

How STUPID is this? At one shop I was at while reading the newspaper I saw a homeless person empty a tip jar while the employees weren't looking. The tip jar was full of $5's and $1's.
