I think they should keep doing what they have been doing since Marcos. The changes since then are remarkable, some ups and downs as would be expected, but a real
masterpiece in construction

An interesting question and whilst this seems unlikely with what we know today, many other (unlikely) countries in history have been super powers, and many of those countries are not the force they once were today.
This is more "Yahoo Opinions" than "Yahoo Answers" so I am sorry I cannot be more useful to you.
To be successful it seems you need either total control of a country and push it forward (for better or worse) or you need to open it right up and let it attract the best minds and money of the day.
Being open and accepting to new ideas, innovative ways of doing things and being tolerant of different cultures and religions can do wonders for a country or people. Education and military force also seem to be important.
The second path seems to be the longer lasting option to choose, although history will tell us that all great powers end, although sometimes it can take a few centuries for this to happen completely.
Oh, and avoid civil war if you can. Civil war has destroyed many great empires.
Will be interesting to see what other have to say.

Probably, but sadly not in our lifetime.
Realistically, too much needs to be done to at least even straighten the many social ills of my country, the Philippines. Unfortunately, the current social structure of my country does not warrant any glimmer of progress in the near future.

If we knew the answer to that, would there be any 3rd world countries?
But, ok-i'll take a shot--
Maybe come up with a new technology/product/service that would be in demand by the world..
Keep getting work Visas to work in America, and you can flood the economy with more money from workers in the US.

doubt its gonna happen. i mean, its all alcoholics and smokers and teen pregnancy and affairs with your neighbor while your wife/husband goes down the street for a chat with his/her dying mother. they need to seriously clean it up and get some real morals over there. they're a bunch of hypocrits. they look down on those things, yet that's their society!
and i am not hating on filipinos. let's make that clear. I AM A FILIPINO AND AND PROUD OF IT. its only the fact that i live in the USA that makes me so critical of the philippines.
