I think for most part of the world, drugs ,like cocaine, narcotic, etc., are considered illegal and are completely ban from society. Drugs are known scientifically that are 'very' bad to body, and it may be fatal as well. Cigarettes are also proved to be bad for health and are also proved to cause a lot of chronic and fatal illness to people. However, they can be legally sold in most part of the world. Why? Why can't we treat cigarettes like what we treat drugs by completely banning from society? On the contrary, if we can sell cigarettes as commercial goods, like TVs, by those big company, why can't they sell drugs like cigarettes in society as well? In US, I don't think that there is constitution right like owning weapon (guns) for cigarettes. So we cannot prohibit people from owning guns but is it possible to ban cigarette legally since it is just other commercial products like TVs.

there are so many reasons for that.

now here's one reason smokers and non-smokers can agree on

tobacco = multi billion$ companies

and so the tax goes to the gov't, and even a lotta officials and politicians smoke anyway.

Because cigarettes don't alter your conciousness.

That, and the fact that a number of politicians actively use tobacco and tobacco products.

Hope this helps!

Well you see their is thing called the Congress and another thing called the Senate. The three branches of U.S Government are the Judiciary, the Legislative and the Executive.

Now, the name of the game is money. So lets play to win.

Keep drugs like cocaine and marijuana illegal, we get lots of rich people getting richer in the judicial system: Judges, Government Agencies, FBI ATF DEA etc.

So any hoo, Tobacco has this thing called a lobby. Now what this lobby does is talk to our elected representatives as often as possible to tell them not to pass laws banning tobacco just because it kills people. The congress guys listen and figure eventually they will make more money from massive law suits filed against the tobacco industry, because all their cronies are lawyers just like them. You get it? Clear as mud? Thanks for asking.

There is too much money at stake,& too many jobs would be lost.Also,just like prohibition,there would be criminals smuggling tobacco instead of alcohol.Governments would have to increase other taxes to replace lost tobacco revenue.Heroin,cocaine,etc.are already banned,that does not stop anyone who wants it from getting it.

in my opinion cigarettes should be banned and if tobacco was only recently discovered then it would be banned. we are at least getting a smoking ban in public places on 1st july here in england. you say that guns cannot be banned in us because of the constitution well then change the constitution its not caste in stone is it?
