At the risk of getting a TON of hatemail...I am going to ask a question a friend of mine and I talk a lot about. We both have children and I stay home with mine. She works part-time to supplement their income, but would much rather stay home with her son. We sometimes discuss the fact that with so many women trying to be more like men, the few of us left who just want to be housewives or stay at home moms are actually being forced into the workplace. I talk to so many mothers who would rather be at home with their children but have to work just to pay the bills. Still others enjoy working and absolutely should have that right. However, somehow in the process, the women who still would have chosen to stay at home are losing OUR right to do so. With most of our nation being a two-income household, things are becoming more expensive because people can afford more. It's just a thought and I wondered if anybody else had perspective on our thoughts...

Forget taxes, offsetting and voluntary sacrifices, the only way to meet the necessary cuts in carbon emissions is by allocating everyone and equal share that they are allowed to produce.

It’s quite simple. We set a national limit, to be gradually reduced over time, divide it by the population and bingo: your individual carbon allowance. People who want to travel by plain or leave their heating on max all autumn can buy any excess carbon rations from those sustainable enough (or to poor to burn lots of fuel) and have some left over.

The question is, in this current climate of ‘no such thing as society’ and individualistic self righteousness, is their enough demand for a system that would so restrict out lives?

Would you vote for carbon rationing?

If not, what would it take to convince you?

I am curious. I love to read the questions and answers on this site, however it seems that there are some people who are either mis informed or complete idiots. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of intelligent answers. There are also some very dumb questions.

Do you miss the 80s? I was just a small kid when 80s vanished, but I remember the nights were great, the music coming out those days were so lovely and memorable - that keyboard sound with guitar solos! Those denim jeans! Those lego boxes! Those matchbox, majorette metal mini cars! Those t.v plays like Airwolf, Perfect Strangers, Full House (things were made for families those days)! I miss 80s do you?

I have heard that canned foods lose a lot of their nutrients through their preservation process. I also wonder how many preservatives or chemicals are not good for you in there. Does anybody know?
It sure its easier though to pop open a can of vegetable soup as opposed to using fresh vegetables to make something from scratch. Any knowledge about this?

If a hate filled beast was coming at you...and you knew his intent was to kill you...What would you do?

A. Nothing because you couldn't be sure of what the right thing to do, and you are quite sure you are going to die anyhow.
B. Or would you fight in any way you could, even if you knew that in the end you wouldn't be able to prevent what the gruesome outcome would end up being.

The bewildering aspect of the stabbing murder of a 15-year-old freshman at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School has little to do with the fact that the crime occurred in one of the state's wealthier areas. The real shock is that such a crime could occur in a school that makes an extraordinary commitment to counsel and educate students with emotional and psychological disabilities.

Odgren, the 16-year-old student charged with the murder of James Alenson, has been diagnosed with Asperger's disorder, a form of autism, according to his attorney. The boy was enrolled in a special program at the high school designed to help students succeed by offering flexible schedules and personalized course loads. Students in this Great Opportunities program see counselors, a clinical psychologist, and a classroom coordinator. And this is just one of several special programs offered at a school that enjoys a reputation for open communication and even affection between teachers and students.

No school district can afford to ignore the lessons from this case. Much, including motive, remains unknown. But the need for strong inquiries in a few areas is already clear. Several students have told reporters that the suspect had adopted a style of dress similar to the perpetrators of the 1999 Columbine school massacre in Colorado. Others say he boasted about a weapons collection and made morbid references. Yet there is no clear indication that students informed responsible adults about their concerns or that the faculty picked up similar cues.

To see what went wrong at Lincoln-Sudbury, it might help to see what went right at New Bedford High School, where police foiled a 2001 alleged plot by five teenagers to gun down students and faculty. In that case, a student expressed fears to a teacher who in turn referred the matter to a guidance counselor who wisely called police. Simultaneously, other students were contacting police officers who specialize in forming relations with school-age youths. A school custodian in that case also uncovered a key piece of physical evidence. It was an all-city effort.

Screening of students for the regional high school's special ed programs may also need to be reevaluated. The commitment to serving students with a wide range of disabilities under one roof is strong in the Lincoln-Sudbury district. But the educational philosophy is only as sound as the screening is vigorous.

It's too much to ask adolescents to interpret odd behaviors or comments by classmates. But it's not too much to ask them to point out such matters to trusted adults. Successful institutions, including schools, distribute responsibility throughout the entire ranks. In business, it's called "pushing smarts down." Even the best schools in the state need to push harder.

Let's say that someone breaks into your house and holds your child hostage. He instructs you to go kill someone for him. He says that if you don't kill the man he will kill your child. He also says that if the police show up at the house he will kill your child. He promises that if you do as he instructs he will allow you and the child to live and be out of your life. As for the man you are instructed to kill, you have no idea who this person is, why this person wants them dead or any other personal information aside from what you are given to locate them.
