Let's say that someone breaks into your house and holds your child hostage. He instructs you to go kill someone for him. He says that if you don't kill the man he will kill your child. He also says that if the police show up at the house he will kill your child. He promises that if you do as he instructs he will allow you and the child to live and be out of your life. As for the man you are instructed to kill, you have no idea who this person is, why this person wants them dead or any other personal information aside from what you are given to locate them.

The right thing to do would be to try and reason with the person and talk him down.Under no circumstances should you go out and kill this other person. If you can not talk him down then you need to get the police involved.
However I don't believe your question is set up That way. I am assuming that there is no talking with this guy and that his orders are as stands and tha he is true to his word. So you are damed if you do and damed if you don't. In a situation like that, I do not know if anyone will know what they would do until its time to do it. I would like to believe that I would try to take the guy out risking my child's and my own life in an attempt to make sure he does this to no one else.
Then again if I'm going to have to chose, I would chose my child over a stranger any day or night. The question is could I live with myself after. I don't know.

I'd tell the guy ok I'll do it, I'll do whatever you want...I'd pretend I was going to kill the person but contact the police instead and tell them the situation and how the guy said he'd kill my child if the police showed up, and then I'd let them handle it.

Well, I'm sure as **** not going to be this man's *****. There's no guarantee that he's going to keep his word. I'd march out and call the cops.
Sure I'd be taking a risk. But I think it's the best choice. They have a better chance at extracting the kid than I would.
Or I could try the technique of getting him to like me and try to talk him out of it. But honestly I'm just not that persuasive; I'd probably fail.
My poor hypothetical child!

There is no guarantee that he will not kill you and your child anyway once the deed is done so I would call the police. If hes so willing to kill, then he would have killed the guy he wants YOU to kill himself.
