I've done marathons, long cycles, swims and plan to start mountaineering. If you can share any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. (Oh and within a reasonable budget)

I was born in 1969 and so grew up in the 1970's, and I'm feeling nostalgic. Anybody else remember big GI Joe dolls? I still have mine, I guess they are worth some bucks these days. Whatabout Toughskin jeans...I think Sears carried them, they had 3 colors- green plaid, brown plaid or red plaid, and they were virtually indestructable....

I do. I feel like I empathize with everyone, except maybe people who don't empathize with others. I always try to put myself in other people's shoes, and I think even the "worst" of us are capable of decency. I felt bad for Tookie Williams. I felt bad when I I read a story about exconvicts not being able to get jobs. I feel bad for gang related deaths and suicides. I even felt bad when Sadaam was executed. Does anyone else do this? Would our society be better if more had such views?

Skin bleaching? . I'm of Asian descent and I was horrified by this article.

(Edited): "On sale in the high street: a face cream called Maxi White, a £4.79 gel with overnight results. [This is] the biological equivalent, of paint stripper. It removes the top layer of skin, increasing the risk of skin cancer. If the chemical - which is used in certain industrial processes - enters your bloodstream, it can cause fatal liver+kidney damage, headaches, nausea, convulsions and permanent scarring.
Elizabeth Arden's Indian 'whitening' range is represented by Catherine Zeta Jones. Another advert, by Unilever, which markets several whitening products in India, shows a young Indian woman dreaming of being famous, but her skin is too brown. One day her sister hands her a tube of Fair And Lovely skin cream. Then the advert flashes forward: her complexion has changed dramatically; she is pale and has landed her dream job."

I live in a small to medium town in U.S. and I would say that the bare minimum needed here would be around $250 per week which would translate to roughly 125 pounds per week. I dont know how much a city like London would cost but I am sure it is exensive. Does it seem that it is getting harder to survive? What happened to the right to earn a living?

I am living in the U.S. and it has gotten so much more difficult to get a job without having to go through endless background checks and drug tests and some are even doing credit checks and now I have heard that places like Taco Bell and Jack in the Box restaurants (dont know i you have those there) are requiring "personality tests" to be hired . And even i you are hired they make you go through a week two training process where you have to watch boring movies about how to act around customers or how to cut a tomatoe properly and how to wear rubber gloves and endless endless company policies and rules that you have to agree to. And this is just for a job that pays what would be equivalant to 3 or 4 pounds per hour! and they always hire more people than they actually need so you have to compete with each other for this job and at the end of a few weeks your manager will let you know if you "won" this excellent career opportunity or if he has chosen another of the other 5 people!
