why do people smoke?

I love how people who have never smoked, think that they can know how and why others smoke.

I started when I broke up with my fiance, because it helped me deal with the stress. That was 3 years ago. Now I am addicted. I have tried to quit on multiple occasions, and so far, I have failed. I hate smoking, but nicotene is the most addictive substance known to man. It is extremely difficult to quit.

So others can stop with all the bullsh*t about having no self esteem, and not caring about our bodies. It is extremely arrogant to assume such things. Even if some of you used to smoke. You can only speak from your own experience. So put a lid on it.

I started smoking as a teen to spite my mother. Now after being addicted for 15 years, it doesn't seem like that great of an idea. I try to limit myself to 5 a day, now. Hopefully I will be able to quit this year.

Cigarette companies and their marketing groups look for people who see themselves as "rebels", when in actuality, these people have no self-esteem, are susceptible to social pressures, and to be frank, just don't give a damn about themselves.

**To the dumazz who smoked because he "got dumped", you essentially didn't give a DAMN about yourself ...

Same reason why some people over-eat, dont eat, drink alcohol, get married, work, play, sky dive..ect..........its a choice that some people take advantage of.
