If you want to use past-tense how do you know when to use Imparfait or when to use Avoir or etre.

I tried to incorporate past tense and past imperfect tenses for my elementary Spanish 2 homework. Please correct any mistakes you see…thanks a lot!

De nino, hice(preterite-yo form) muchas cosas. Yo andaba (imperfect preterite-yo) a la escuela muchas veces. Despues de escuela yo hice(preterite-yo) mi tarea. Entonces yo ayude(preterite –yo) mi mama con cena. Finalmente, yo jugue(preterite-yo) con mis amigos.

Cada verano mi familia y yo siempre ibamos(imperfect preterite) a la playa. Generalmente, durante los tardes, nosotros nadabamos (imperfect preterite) en el oceano. Yo mire (preterite-yo) los estellas por las noches.
