please help me. im not very good at spanish and i'd like to at least understand some spanish..

What is the best free online translator available? I've tried using Babelfish but I find it translates poorly, due to the fact that it translates word for word. If you know of a better free online service please send me the link. Thanks in advance.

It says on the box of the Pimsleur CDs, that it gives you "Guaranteed Profiency" after 3 levels. And 3 levels = 90 lessons = 45 hours of instruction. How can you be proficient in a language after 45 hours of instruction? I don't believe it. I already tried the Italian version and have the hardest time retaining the information.
