I feel that this goes out to Hottie who posted the question 'Why doesn't everyone speak English?' and goes in support to triviatm who I believe had a good opinion. I also believe that if you are going to travel to a foreign country where their first language is not English then a person should at LEAST know enough to get around. It is not the job of everyone in the world to learn English because it is a combination of a good portion of the European languages rolled up into one. I agree that if you do work in shops and the like in a foreign country that you should learn the language though.

I find it cute when schools and unis get exchange students from other countries who's first language is not English. Because then it's enriching to both you and them to teach them a small part of the English language and explain to them how the rules work even if you yourself don't understand y the rules are like that.

I can't understand why there's so many pronunciations of a word. For example, the word "dance". Americans pronouce it as DAN-ce while the Britains pronouce it as DA-nce, same goes for the word "chance".

Another example would be the word "demand". Americans pronouce it as de-mand while the British pronouce it as de-mund.
It's pretty confusing.

can someone explain why and which one should I follow?

I'm studying British English.
