Last names are a bit different - or at least, common last names have regional differences, because they are often based (as in all other languages) on previous centuries prononciation of common words, but first names are quite standard.

Also, regional mobility means that today is becoming more and more difficult to take a guess: lots of southerners moved to Torino and Milano in the last 2 centuries, so names in the north are now quite mixed.
