Okay, say, for example, that someone was born in America and they moved to a foreign country when they were very young—old enough to talk, but young nonetheless. Let's say when they were 6-years-old. If they lived in the country they moved to for a long time, can they develope the accent of that country and sound like they were a native of that country? Not faking the accent, but subconsciously develope it and have that accent "stick" to them?

In very formal English, I ask: shall one says:

- I've written to you a letter (or: I've written a letter to you)

and

- I've bought for/to you a bike (or: I've bought a bike for/to you)?

I am tierd of going to the store and hearing this mexican talk. Now, if they want to live here and become american, they should learn English. If I traveled to Mexico or South Amercia and decieded I wanted to live there, they would want me to learn their Language wouldn't they? I think it is o.k. to not forget where they came from and still speak in their Language amoung themselfs, but they are not even trying to learn. You see it all the time when you go up to the self serve at grocery stores. It asks, English or Spanish or on the telephone when you make a call. Give me a break, I am one american that is tierd of it. I can't even talk to one because they act like they don't know what I am saying or just act stupid because they do know what I am saying. I have already gave that a test, and yes they knew what I said. Does not wanting to learn make them stupid? I think they should make it mandatory for anyone of a different language to learn to speak English in America.
