I'm penning a novel and two of my female characters are Mandarin Chinese. I have chosen the name Shen Huan for my first character. The second is called Chloe Chun (she has taken on a western name as she lives in the UK, as many Chinese do) but I require a Chinese first name for her.

I need to know, and I'd love some honest answers, if Shen Huan is a good Chinese name, and any suggestions for Chloe's Chinese first name. Thank you!

I"ve recently started dating an Englishman and he has a few phrases I don't understand. "Does my nut in" is one. I've looked online and found British slang pages but none that contain that phrase. If I can find one that contains that phrase then it should work well for me. So, can someone explain it and recommend a good site as well so I don't have to ask him what he means every third sentence he speaks.

Even educated Americans will say things like:

"That's real good." or "He's driving slow."

The proper way to say these are "That's really good." and "He's driving slowly."

Is it because American pay less attention to HOW things are done, or HOW things are?

Methinks yes.

Hi all Yahoo-ers,.. I wanted to ask how to say things like,.. "Hello/Hi!", and,... "Goodbye", also; "thankyou",.. "Hope to hear from you soon".
I should point out, that I would be speaking to females,... whether it's any different for the sexes, I don't know but thought I should mention it anyway.
Thanks! :)

I was told that Afrikaans speakers can understand Dutch, but Dutch speakers can´t understand Afrikaans.

What happens with German, is it understood by Afrikaans/Dutch speakers, or do German speakers understand Afrikaans/Dutch?

"Did Saddam Hussein done anything wrong against US? Then why the US happy on his hanging?"

I have got an answer like the following and 12 other answers which was right to question.

"You are joking right? Maybe just an ignorqant moron that can't construct simple English sentences."

What is the mistake he points?
