Thanksgiving

[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Holidays Thanksgiving

We're traveling for Thanksgiving dinner this weekend and I have to prepare a side dish and take it with me. I must prepare it the day before and it must be able to travel in the car for 3 hours (can be cooled). Any thoughts of a great dish that tastes even better the next day? Many thanks.

Despite what I believe Christmas to be......it has become a commercial holiday. So why not give off more time during Christmas that Thanksgiving?

What is the best kind of oil for frying a whole turkey. I am looking for something somewhat healthy. Don't say just bake it...cause the whole family wants fried.

If you are married or have a significant other, how do you two decide which family gathering to go to..Or, do you just have dinner at your place and just have everyone come there...

Every year my youth group has this huge football game between all the small groups. Last year our pastors had some weird idea to add extra dumb competitions into the mix, one being "turkey bowling". With this "turkey bowling", we bowl with turkeys and waste probably 4 or 5 of them at least.

Yesterday I just found out we're doing this same competition again, and I feel really wrong about it. I mean, I'm sure there are TONS of families in our city who can't afford thanksgiving turkeys!

I want to say something about it, but here's where I'm torn: if we DON'T do the turkey bowling, it's not like we're actually gonna give the turkeys to families who need them. We're not gonna donate money to a homeless shelter to help them out with the thanksgiving meal. OUR CHURCH BEING THAT GENEROUS?! YEAH RIGHT!!! It's really sad, but we never give to that sorta thing...

All I know is that this game really bothers me. Should I say something about it or not?

I will take my mother to one. Since it is only me and her now. She doesn't like to cook a big dinner like that just for the two of us. But I do miss those home cook Thanksgiving dinners. And I'm not a very good cook either.

So last night my boyfriend decides we are having Thanksgiving at our place - we have only been there a year, so this is my first Thanksgiving "out on my own". HELP! lol I cook regularly but nothing compared to an entire 'feast'! Luckily it will only be about 7 people. What do I need to do to prepare?! Any easy, quick advice you have. Thanks in advance!

So just what the question is. What is your favorite holiday dish and favorite Holiday dessert? Do you have any special recipes or traditions if so share them. Would like to hear what other families do for the holidays.

My mother in law has asked me to bring dessert, but unfortunately I haven't quite mastered my mother's pie crust recipe, and I'm not very fond of store-bought desserts or crusts. I'd like to make something home-made, but pie is such a "traditional" Thanksgiving dessert that I fear straying away from it. What do you like to have on Thanksgiving besides pie?

My boyfriend and I are going to visit my granny who is almost 90 years old. The problem though is that all she knows about him is what my father told her and he hates my boyfriend because he's black. I don't know if she'll be more racist since she's older or if she'll be more accepting since she's lonely. I am not looking forward to it because I am expecting that we'll get in a racial argument then she'll have a heart attack and keel over. I need advice on how to handle the situation.
