I always thought Thanksgiving was the last Thursday in November as declared by President Lincoln (October 3, 1863). Why is that different this year?

that invite themselves over for the holidays (thanksgiving or Christmas dinner) and then try to dictate what the menu will be???
Our "would be" friends called us rude for not serving exactly what they expect. Needless to say, they're on their own.

My family isn't doing any fancy dinners this year. I got to work on Thanksgiving. It kind of sucks not doing the whole big family get-together, but maybe we'll make up for it. My brother is on leave (in the Marines) and we'll be going to Universal Studios on Friday.

So, anyone doing anything special?

Please tell me who you think is right:
A friend told me that if a husband tells his wife to prostrate to him it is her duty to do so. But I totally REFUSE to believe this. Because unless I am mistaken, this is SHIRK, which we know is the worst of all sins. May Allah SWT forgive me if I am wrong but I am certain that I'm not.
I know that a wife should respect her husband and be good with him but prostration is something we do ONLY for God, right? I am certain I'm right about this subject but may Allah please forgive me if I'm wrong.
So please tell me....who is right?? Me or my friend??

I would definetly have to say the Winter Season During December/Christmas time. Just the whole atmosphere, weather, and feelings that are present really relieves any stresses I have. I love winter sports and snow.

I was brought up that you always bring something when you are invited as a guest for Thanksgiving. If you are the guest either a dish, dessert, flowers, and or wine.

Why do people take everything so literal when some says Oh really don't bring anything. Don't you think its a nice gesture to the host? Am I wrong?

I have some friends to buy a little something for, for Christmas. Well, 23 to be exact. Okay, before anyones goes off on me about spending money on so many friends, these friends are part of a group I belong to; a group of women who are having a hard time conceiving children or are having difficult pregnancies, so I thought each of them needed a little Christmas cheer. Anyway, I want to get each of them a little something that isn't expensive, but still says "I thought of you". Know what I mean?

I was thinking a coffee cup from the dollar shop with some homemade hot cocoa. Or maybe a treat sack with various baked goods in it. Anyone have any ideas?

Every X-mas, we always spend a crapload on gifts because we never want to leave anyone out. This X-mas I thought why not just buy for my 2 year-old and husband? Is that wrong? And should I let people know that?

Well, folks, it's just about that time of year again!

When spreading holiday cheer which is your preferred saying? Is "happy holidays" taking the place of "merry Christmas" all over the place -- or just when addressing someone who's beliefs you're unsure of?

also - in your opinion is it appropriate for a non-Jew to say "happy Chanukah" to a Jewish person?

I don't cry the way Shias cry but certainly I get sad, really sad and tears does fall down by remembering that time. Its a great pain to all muslims, but only they were given the strength to face them. We normal people can't even imagine to be that powerful. May peace be upon all of them.

Ours in kinda boring lol. We have turkey and dressing with carrots, onion and celery in it. Mashed potatos and gravy, green beans with slivered almonds, sweet potatos, and of course cranberry sauce. We either bake a pumpkin pie or apple pie for desert.
For many years it was tradition fo the family to gather at my grandmothers but she passed away a couple of years ago and the family is so spread out we just kinda do our own thing. This year it'll only be 4 of us - my guy and I and my mom and her husband.
After dinner I'll break out holiday movies like Holiday Inn, White Christmas, or something along those lines to get us in the holiday mindset, lol.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving!
