I believe it is because Jesus gave his life for us. That is a pretty big sacrifice to make for anyone.

Easter, the Sunday of the Resurrection, Pascha, or Resurrection Day, is an important religious feast in the Christian liturgical year. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus, which Christians believe occurred on the third day after his crucifixion some time in the period AD 27 to 33.

Easter also refers to the season of the church year, called Eastertide or the Easter Season. Traditionally the Easter Season lasted for the forty days from Easter Day until Ascension Day but now officially lasts for the fifty days until Pentecost. The first week of the Easter Season is known as Easter Week or the Octave of Easter.

Easter is termed a movable Christian holy day because it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. Easter falls at some point between late March and late April each year (early April to early May in Eastern Christianity), following the cycle of the moon.

Today many families celebrate Easter in a completely secular way, as a non-religious holiday.

Easter goes back to the Passover, when the children of Isreal where passed over by the death angel in the land of egypt. With the death, buriel and resurrection of Jesus our sins are washed away and we are given a new life in Christ. Jesus died for all sins and everyone who will believe can be saved. Remember how they were to kill the lamb and then put the blood above the door and then on the ride side door frame and the left side door frame, think about, just like a cross. WoW. Jesus was a perfect Lamb and a perfect Sacrifice, once for all mankind. May God Bless!!

Easter Sunday is the third day that Jesus rose from the dead. He was buried (on Good Friday,) laid in a tomb, and on the third day, Easter Sunday, he rose from the dead. Jesus died for all of our sins. If we believe in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and try to live a good life, we will go to Heaven when we die. What could be better than that?

You answered the question yourself. We celebrate easter in honor of Jesus coming back from the dead, he died to save the world and then rose again on the third day.

the modern version of Easter is one of many examples of the christian faith trying to meld and mold other belief systems into their own in an attempt to expand their own influence by mixing their own resurrection legends with the spring fertility celebrations of the celts and northern tribes they encountered.
the old "let us win their hearts and minds" bit. its easier to adapt an existing belief to your ends than it is to forbid them their own and demand they use yours. How else you gonna go from a man executed, and resurrected to rabbits and eggs? not hard to tell what came from where if you take off the "heresy blinders". I realize this is unpopular with the "faithful" followers who would "blindly" obey doctrine. but the bottom line is that christianity is a religion and religion is about controlling people. Faith is about spirituality and a relationship with a higher power. Easter is a religious holiday.

It is supposedly the day on which Christ rose from the dead. Why we celebrate it with marshmallow peeps and painted eggs, I've got no clue.

Because Jesus loved us so much as to die for us, and then he came back and that is so powerful that he loved us that much. And after death he came back and that is so important.
