All praise be to Allah; I seek refuge with Him from shirk and kufr.
First of all, prostration is an act of worship, and sajdah of respect has been abolished in the Ummah of Mohammad s.a.w.s. Prostration, ruku' or qiyam to anyone other than Allah s.w.t. is shirk.
There is no obedience to creation in disobedience to the Creator.
If your friend prostrated to her husband, she should repent immediately and take her shahadah again, so should her husband, and have they performed Hajj, they should perform it again.
I'm afraid her husband misinterpreted the following hadeeth:
When Mu`âdh ibn Jabal returned from al-Shâm he prostrated to the Prophet who said, "What is this, Mu`âdh?" He replied, when I came to Shâm I found them prostrating to their priests and bishops, so I told myself I would like to do the same to you." The Messenger of Allâh said: "Do not! If I were to order anyone to prostrate to anyone else, I would order woman to prostrate to her husband due to the greatness of his right over her. I swear by Allâh that no woman shall taste the sweetness of faith until she fulfills the right of her husband even if he should want her while she is on top of the camel-saddle!" [found in different narrations, saheeh]
In fact, he a.s. said it on a few occasions. But note that there is the word "IF", which means it hasn't been ordered, nor allowed.
My dear, shirk is the worst sin, and takes the doer out of Islam, whether he knows it or not.
Rituals of respect can easily lead to shirk, whether it is to husband, parents, teachers... But sajdah to other than Allah a.w.j. is already an act of shirk.
I append an article how to be a good wife, I'm sure she can do other things than prostrating to her husband. If my wife prostrated to me, I would shelter her no more. On top of that, what kind of husband would ask his wife to make sajdah to him - it's pure arrogance and toghian...that husband is a taghoot.
The second and the third link lead to articles on obedience.

Firstly he shouldnt do that many misundertstand and think islam gives men supeiroirity over women which is completely wrong women should listen to their husband if he sayin somthing right because you may not know but allah has made it farz on the manto provide the family and give som of the money he earns to the women where as women dnt have to give thier money to thier husbands also even if you have a divorce the man should still be the one having to pay for the children and he will be questioned about this on the day of judgement. men have so much responsibilitie you see there for it probably meant to symbolyse how much you should love him.( its shirk tp prostrate to any one else)
MAny also think women are not allowed alot of jobs but it is mustahab preferred of they didnt but they can it isnt wrong the wive of the prophet may peace be upon her was a bussiness women but she got a highly respected status by god because she loved and looked after the prophet

As-salaamualakum
YOU are right, sister. A human does not and should not prostrate to another human. It does not matter whether the person is of a high class, whether the person is a senior, or if the person is a husband who simply wishes to be treated as a king. Muslims bow ONLY to Allah, Al-Khaaliq (the Creator), Al-Aliyy (the High), Al-Waali (the Ruler). It is true that a wife should respect her husband, but sadly your friend's husband is definitely not showing any respect to HER by telling her that it is her "duty" to prostrate to him.
May Allah guide us all to the right path, ameen.

She is ABSOLUTELY WRONG!!!!!!! i cant believe someone would say that! that is committing shirk! no one is worthy of prostration except Allah SWT!
i think she was mistaken with the hadith when the prophet may paece be upon him said that if any besides Allah was allowed to be prostrated to, would be a woman's husband. but of course this was not granted to the men by Allah, so prostrating to them would be haraam, and whoever says this is trying ti oppress woman, who have high stus in Islam.
asalamu alaikum,
ur sis in Islam.

Oh my God!
I've never heard of this and before I move on,I wanna ask your friend something, WHY WOULD A HUSBAND WANT HIS WIFE TO PROSTRATE TO HIM ?
I believe God will throw him in hell fire if he asks so!
Prostrating is an act of total submission which must be only
to God.
Now,your friend must have heard this somewhere.it was mentioned by Muhammad (PBUH),but he (PBUH) did not say "if a husband tells his wife to prostrate to him it is her duty to do so"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Muhammad (PBUH) would never say or mean in whatever way such a thing.
The Prophet(PBUH) said :"If I commanded anyone to prostrate to anyone else, I would command the wife to prostrate to her husband."
so,Muhammad(PBUH) said "if I commanded anyone to prostrate to anyone else", this is enough to let us know the purpose here,of course he didn't mean "Shirk",of course he didn't mean what your friend said because he actually said something completely different, and of course he didn't mean she must prostrate to him or he can ask her to do so!!!
Muhammad (PBUH) did not mean "to prostrate" literally, and if you read the Hadith carefully and think just a little bit,it would be so obvious. One's thinking should not be shallow here!
it was an expression!!!!!just like we sometimes do,to tell women that they should appreciate their husbands, respect them and care for them.He also mentioned in another Hadith that a woman must not refuse if ever her husbad invites her to bed.of course,we shouldn't interpret this in a shallow way also.....like,
"Oh what if she's sick?? what if she's tired??what if she's bla bla bla??"
The prophet meant that she shouldn't refuse when she's capable...and that's definitely right!
and He (PBUH) is always right because he was sent with peace and mercy to the whole world.
Peace be upon him.
and.....you are right my sister :)

Isjada ras means to bow the head like the way that people say hello to each other. This does not mean prostrate as the word Sajda means to prostrate but this doesn't mean to bow down on the floor. This is also because the rights that man owe his wive, in terms of physical rights.
Please also listen to Sheikh Abdullah Adhami lectures about women on this website. See "Gender relations" and others. He explains it better I ever could.

I am shocked to hear this. It is a LIE!
There is a hadith, which says that prostration is to God only, and there is no obedience to a creation in the disobedience of the creator. So no, this is a case where you do not listen to your husband!!!!
Subhana allah who made lies so obvious. Your friend is confused because it is a wife's duty to listen to her husband but It is not her duty if he is wrong. If he asks her to murder is it her duty to do so? I am sorry to see this low degree of common sense.

As Salamu Alaykum,
I would have to say that you are right. Prostration is ONLY for Allah, the One and only true God. If you want more clarification you should ask someone of true knowledge.

oh ur friend is confusing the saying of prophet muhammad (PBUH).
Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said: "Were I to command anyone to prostrate to anyone other than Allah, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate to her husband. If the husband orders his wife to carry the boulders of one mountain to the next mountain, and the boulders of the next mountain to a third mountain, she will have to do this(emphasizing on account of men's rights over the women ordained by Allah)."
so your friend is mistaken. i hope you read my reply to the question as nobody else has posted this hadith.

Wow..what will people come up with next.
Yes, you are right...not only that, its HARAM to do! I dont see how any muslim can possibly even believe that. If that were true, it would void out the whole religion, because it contradicts things in the quran about women and men being created equal and definitely promotes shirk. Your friend seems very very mislead.
