do you think that a paper towel dispenser would be an appropriate device and venue to deliver public service voice messages to help people stop smoking, suggest more tolerant behavior towards others, discourage harmful drug use and other messages to empower people to make positive changes in their lives.

I will go to the Christmas gathering/dinner of my boyfriend, who I have dated for about four months, and I'm thinking whether I actually have to bring something for his family, because it's Christmas. He and I are a decent couple, are both in the 30's, and consider our relationship serious. He's American, and I'm Japanese. He said that I don't need to worry about bringing anything, though, I wondered if I should take it straight or take it as a gesture of polite (like Japanese culture). However, he doesn't know much about the culture. There will be his mother and grandma at least, and it will be the first time for me to meet them.

We just moved into a rental property that has been vacant for almost a year. Apparently the neighbors have gotten into the habit of walking across our lawn to get to the neighbor on the other side. This bugs us to death, so it has got to stop. Only thing is we just moved in and don't want to cause problems. It's clear they don't plan to stop, so what do you guys think? Send a note? Go talk to them? Invite them over?

There seems to be a recent public outcry demanding a "Hippo for Christmas." Children the world over are expressing their desire for, even demanding a hippo. Given the Hippo's unstable temperment, dangerous reputation, sizeable girth and propensity for flatulence; do you really feel this is an appropriate gift? I am worried for your children. I am worried about the ecological impact. I am worried about running into a hippo that someone couldn't care for anymore so they set it free in the forest. Please consider carefully.

What IS it with you women who you feel like you have to stand practically INSIDE the men's dressing room while your teen son tries on clothes?

There ARE other men in there besides Poindexter and I for one don't want Big Mommy Albright staring at my twigs and berries, because baby I do NOT wear underwear.

You sit or stand right there all bloated and I have to say excuse me! Excuse me! EXCUSE ME! every time I leave to get another size or color and again every time I come back, because YOU have half yourself inside the dressing room yelling "DOES IT FIT? COME OUT AND SHOW ME!". And then you give ME attitude?

This wouldn't be nearly so annoying if you would give me the same courtesy and let me stand inside the Victoria's Secret dressing room while you ensconsed your bosoms in some frilly underthings, but NOOOOO then YOU would call security!

I know some of you women are going to say "It's not the same!" but for once, can you NOT look at it from only YOUR point of view?

I drew my brother in law's name in the family Christmas drawing. He is a real jerk most of the time. I cannot think of a thing in the world to buy him.

We've been dating for almost two years and plan to get married, he is really into video games so I got him Nintendo's Secret of Mana online, but it wont be here until after christmas! And I'm making him a book from scratch about us, but I always like to give extravagant gifts, I don't want to just hand him one little thing, even if it is really special.

I don't want to buy him clothing, or anything too cliche. Does anyone have any ideas? For bought or homemade gifts, or even setting up a suprise?

I went to buy a hot pasty and on the way into the shop, I saw a homeless guy on the pavement. So I bought 2 pasties, one for him one for me.
When I came out of the shop I went to give it to him, but saw he was sending a text on his mobile phone! So I walked straight past and now I feel bad because he could have had something hot to eat and who am I to judge?

Oh I gave the pasty to another homeless guy with a dog.

My boyfriend and I were having a discussion about gift giving and he stated that he felt it was fine for a female friend (whom we both know and like - this isn't a jealousy issue!) to give him a leather jacket or bottle of expensive cologne for Christmas. I feel this is weird as these arent gifts that "friends" exchange (all the other gifts exchanged are in the $15-$20 range).
He also felt it was fine for another man to purchase items like this for me - including jewelery - as long as it wasn't a ring or necklace.
If a male friend bought me a gold bracelet I would feel weird and uncomfortable.
When would you feel a gift given to your Boyfriend/Girlfriend had crossed over from being generous to inappropriate?

Does it have anything to do with religion? I was just wondering. And is it okay to say it to a complete stranger? I think I know that answer, but what if they don't believe in God? Will they still say thank you?

A friend's parents recently welcomed my boyfriend and me and other friends for an overnight stay in their home while we attended an engagement party for a mutual friend in their town. I should mention that neither my boyfriend or I had met them before. I am sending a small gift but would also like to thank them for their generous hospitality; they had lunch waiting for us upon our arrival and cooked a large breakfast for 8 of us the next morning and even showed us their town and took us to their country club for ice skating and drinks, etc... I am having difficulty phrasing the part of the letter that mentions these things concisly and with gratitude. I have looked on the internet for tips but have not had much luck in this area. Your suggestions are both welcomed and appreciated!
