A friend's parents recently welcomed my boyfriend and me and other friends for an overnight stay in their home while we attended an engagement party for a mutual friend in their town. I should mention that neither my boyfriend or I had met them before. I am sending a small gift but would also like to thank them for their generous hospitality; they had lunch waiting for us upon our arrival and cooked a large breakfast for 8 of us the next morning and even showed us their town and took us to their country club for ice skating and drinks, etc... I am having difficulty phrasing the part of the letter that mentions these things concisly and with gratitude. I have looked on the internet for tips but have not had much luck in this area. Your suggestions are both welcomed and appreciated!

Dear mr. and mrs. so and so,
I just wanted to thank you for your amazing hospitatlity this weekend. It was so kind of you to welcome perfect strangers into your home durring this stressful holiday time. I wanted to complement you on your beautiful home, as well as a wonderful town. It was so nice of you to show us around. You really went above and beyond to make us feel at home, from the outstanding meals that you prepared for us to ice skating and drinks. I just cannot thank you enough for all that you have done. I wish you the Merriest Christmas, and may God bless you and your family in the upcoming year.

You don't need to know someone to send them a thank you - best wishes note...... You can just say "Thank you for the wonderful XXX you were so kind to give me. I wish you a wonderful holiday season, I hope you have a great time and a happy new year with the people you love"..... or something like that. That's personal but still can be applied to nearly anyone.

Hello, Here is a small token of my gratitude of being a very nice host family while we were attending a wedding.

I know it was alot to take on so many people but you didn't let it bother you.

So much that you show your pride and joy of your town and had fun ice skating (bbbrrr... Ha! Ha!) and did a nice home cooking for all of us Yummy! :-)

My boyfriend and I enjoy the trip very much and again Thank you for your generous hospitality. I hope to be able to return the nice gestures for you and your family if you ever visit or going through our town please let me know.

When you send a thank you note, it's always nice to add something additional about the item or items you received for an example: Dear Sue, Thank you very much for the candles. I will use them in my living room because the colors are perfect with my color theme. Again, thank you very much, ....Most Sincerely, Pat....another example would be: Dear Sue, Thank you very much for the lovely picture frame. I will put a picture of my mom and me in it, so I can always look at it and remember our vacation in Florida. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness. Most Sincerely, Pat...........Thank you notes are small sized 5" x 3 1/2" so make your thank yous short and sweet.....

Dear _________,
I wanted to personally thank you for such a wonderful weekend in your home. Not only did you make us feel at home with a nice home cooked meal but went beyond with a tour of your city and it amenities. You have exhibited what true hospitality is about and I appreciate it so much. Not only did I enjoy a beautiful engagement party but feel as if I made a new friend(s) along the way.
Thank you again for such a warm, loving atmosphere that was shared with us during our stay.

With warmth and gratitude, OR
With love and friendship, OR
With heartfelt thanks,

( your name )

I would just say "Thank you for your Hospitality, I/we appreciate your welcoming us into your home and all the generous things that you did for us." That way you don't accidentally leave out a small detail that you may have overlooked and possibly hurt feelings.
