This will be my first Christmas away from my family, I just moved to CA, and really need to make xmas special so that I dont feel so homesick. I will be planning a dinner with my roomate, a friend, and a ladyfriend. What is traditional fare for xmas? I was going to get a ham, but how about turkey, chix, or some sort of beef? How much is prime rib? I dont think spam would cut it. Also, could use ideas for side dishes. Thanks. Happy Holidays.

Hi there! We have a girl that sometimes just bursts out into whistle here at work and it is getting pretty annoying. I actually wouldn't really mind it if she would finish her song, but she just does it in spats. And very sporadically. I have headphones on to try to drown her out but I can still hear her whistling away over the headphones. Should I talk to my boss about her whistling? It is starting to affect my work I think, and it is giving me headaches...any advice is welcome. This used to be a really quiet office....thanks!

When entering or leaving... I have noticed a lot of people don't close the door behind them. Is this considered rude? I always close the door behind me unless it's already open or they ask me to leave it open...

I have worked at the company over 3 years and I have 2 bosses, a team of people that work for me, as well as others that I work with daily. I don't want to invite some and not others...would it be wrong to just not invite anyone even though I interact (have some drinks on Thursday or friday night with some of them...that is the extent .. we don't have dinner parties or get togethers at each others homes) with some of them more that others? I am wondering if this will come back to bite me?

so many people bemoan the task of HAVING to find gifts for people they are really not that close to, but feel obligated simply because millions of dollars spent on advertising say they should. do you give gifts simply out of obligation?

We were getting together but each person was paying for their own lunch. I had asked if I could bring my husband and the person who arranged it made another reservation for him. Well it turned out that he couldn't go so I invited another coworker who is a supervisor and when I told the others I would be bringing her they became very upset and I didn't know that some of them had bad blood between them, they evidently had had some kind of argument, I wasn't aware of it. So I go back to person I have invited and mention the names of the people going to make sure she knows it is them. Well I wait for her where she is to meet me to go to the restaurant, she never comes so by the time I find her it is too late, and we both missed the luncheon. Was I wrong to invite another person in the first place. She is sort of my supervisor but not directly. I was so embarrassed about the whole thing.

In the past few years, I have taken responsibility for putting together and cooking for the family holiday dinner. We have as many as 15 people to the dinner. My question is, who requires RSVP for family events? I want to, because otherwise I have people not telling me until the afternoon of the meal whether they are coming.

Is asking family for an RSVP unreasonable or rude? Does comong etiqute say I should or should not assume people who do not respond are not coming?

My husband & I pushed our wedding back a year; his SIL decides on a whim that she no longer wants to be in the wedding, but she took on the responsibility of the dress & the contract. Now demands we refund her cuz she is choosing to back out, blaming it on the loss of their baby 2 years ago & their trouble getting pg now....hubby's bro is supposed to be Best Man and he didn't back out (we kicked him out now)- she is a HUGE drama queen and has never liked me or my hubby - nothing is ever good enuf for her. Are we obligated to refund her $100 deposit?

I got a gift card to a spa but I really do not want to go. Is it possible to return it to the spa and have the amount credited back to my friend's credit card? I would rather have them have the money back, rather than stay on this gift card that I won't use.

I am 32, but I look much younger. Alot of people think that this is a good thing, but it can be annoying as well. I find that alot of times people don't take you seriosly. Every time I go out I'm always getting carded &/or hit on by 21 year olds, & when I tell them that I'm 32 & married with a 7 year old son they think I'm lying just to get rid of them. Also, people can be very rude, I've had several people look at me in an unapproving way when I'm out with my son... & and some people even have the nerve to say things like "you are way to young to have a child that age." I"ve learned to get used to it to a certain degree, but there are some days I just don't feel like dealing with other peoples rude assumptions.
