Why on earth would you invite people over for food and drink and make them pay? Now that I have said that - if you are between 17 and 20 and you are all pitching in for a party that may be a whole other thing, but once you are an adult - absolutly horrifyingly rude.

bad etiquette is not even a a good description of your idea, if you have problems coming up with food and beverage have a pot luck dinner and then you can specify what needs to be brought, People do not mind helping out if circumstances require, but to charge for sandwiches is the height of rudeness

I would say it is unless there are alot of friends and they are abusing the privilege. In which case, I reccomend not having beer and be like "hey, could so and so bring some beer, so and so bring bread, etc." And all of you just understand to chip in. Our suggest ordering a pizza and that you all split the cost.

You do not invite people to your home and charge them for food. Now if they send you out for something you don't have and they want, yes do make them pay for their own.I have to say that I have never bought beer for people to drink at my house. If anyone I invite drinks, they know that I will not have beer for them at my house. When you are having a get together---like to watch football---I would think they would pitch in to buy the beer. You could tell them to bring their own eats, too.I'm sure they would.

Yes that's wrong, but if you're short on cash you can say "Party at my house, it's a potluck, can you bring the bread" Or whatever. I do that all the time and my parties are great and cheap. Not to mention my friends do the same. Good luck!

yup, its bad etiquette. I'm assuming you were invited somewhere where this was expected. If you want to go and visit, eat first & bring your own beer

You are joking aren't you? Bad ettiquette? Like putting your bare feet up on the table and picking your toenails while they eat that lovely snack. Remember if they complain when you do that tell them they are lucky - you are doing it for free - oh and if they're sort of christian wish them merry xmas too.

Think about it. That is the cheapest rudest thing. Only George Costanza could pull something like that off.

They must be hard up for cash...if their charging you for the food and beer then you should charge them for your company being there. i think that's worth way more than the eats and drink.
