I think it depends on what's going on in their life. For example, I got mine a gift certificate to a nice restaurant in town for him and his wife to have a night out. They have young kids, so I thought they'd enjoy it. My Dad had one of his people give him "Father of the Bride" on DVD because I'm engaged and I'm his only girl. It doesn't have to be expensive, it's the thought that counts.

No...why should you get your boss a gift? is it a way to suck up at something...if you want the gift maybe your boss should recieve you the raise.

it all depends on how long you have worked for him, if more than a year they yes, some thing very small , impersonal, and well with in your budget, I would suggest some thing for the office, a plant,(promise to take care of it) a nice letter opener , a calender that would be functional for him, desk accessory's. some thing along that line. If you are new a nice Christmas card will do fine. Also if he is a coffee fanatic. a coupon book from his favorite coffee place is well received

Employees are not required to give the boss a gift.If you want to, then give them something useful.If they write for a living or just have a desk---pen set, leather planner,letter opener,stamp holder,or a nice coffee mug.If you are a baker, everyone likes homemade items,cookies,breads,or muffins.If you don't bake--buy and rewrap on a plate.It's the thought.....

Avoid "personal" gifts like clothing, jewerly, perfume, etc. Try something like a fruit basket, snacking food for the office, or trinket for the office.

What kind of gift is it? A Christmas gift? If so, sure, you should give a gift to him/her. Ask to him what he/she likes or ask to his/her friends
