As much as 1 in 5 kids in the UK leave school being functionally illiterate. I see it everyday in my office. Supposed university graduates are not able to punctuate, construct sentences properly or even spell.

The old education system had absolutely nothing wrong with it. Teaching kids to count, read and develop problem solving skills was not a bad thing. What we have now is a broader curriculum which allows schoolkids to body-swerve anything percieved as too difficult (I would have at that age too).

Kids are lumped together in large "non-competitive" and "inclusive groups of all abilities" resulting in those at the top and bottom of the ability scale suffering. Excelling in anything, especially sport is actively discouraged as it would make other kids feel left out. Teachers are being put under un-ncecessary pressure by goverment ministers changing ideas like fashion trends despite themselves having no background in education.

I'm just curious about this one. I asked a question a few days ago about why its okay for minorites to be racist, and many of the answers I recieved were along the lines of 'white people enslaves/beat/discriminated agianst X race X number of years ago!"

What does that have to do with anything? Of course its horrible that it happened, but no one in my generation actually lived through slavery. Now, I personally didn't do anything to you, personally. How can people justify hatred on something they didn't experience? You don't see two people of the same race going to eachother and saying 'Your grandfather beat up my grandfather! I hate you!". Besides, the irish were discriminated agianst during the potato famine, and no one complains about that. Why is it fair to hate me for something I didn't do and had nothing to do with (my family hasn't even immigrated yet!)? How will racism ever end if people can't let the past go? We can't change it, obviously. Why not let bygones be bygones?

i just stole this question from someone! anyway..i love learning about different ethnicities..its interesting to try and figure out just by looking at someone. anyway..i personally dont know much about my own but heres what i do know: im mostly black. my great great grandmother was irish, italian, and scottish and her husband was half native american and half black. its cool because ppl in my family can look so different - my mother is very pale and kind of european looking but some of her siblings are dark skinned. several ppl in my fam. have green eyes european features and light hair. but me..im just your average black girl **tear** you can see my myspace below.

i have read so many racist things on this website and its kind of interesting because ive never heard anyone in reality say these things. im a serious believer in interracial relationships because i only date outside my race - and ive heard white guys bashing black girls with stereotypes etc. obviously i can see myself and others and know this is just bullshit. but im curious do you have anything against blacks including stereotypes?? if you want to talk to me about it just message me! l8ter!

i am sick of been told by the toffe nosed whitey what i find offensive!

i know that it is whites making these decisions as there arent any non whites in these positions, and if they were, would they not tackle the real issues! - this is just a sneaky way of keeping racism alive!

do i find the word blackboard offensive.....let me think about this for one moment......NO I HAVE MORE IMPORTNT THINGS TO BE WORRIED ABOUT!!!

i could go on and on about the stupid things they have been saying about what i find offensive - how do they know without asking ?


i challange you to ask any black or asian person if they have been asked what they think - ill bet a weeks wages the answer will be no!!

Where did your family come from? My maternal Grandmother is half Welsh, half Irish, and my grandad's family has lived in the same town in Kent as far back as records go (where I live now) my paternal Grandmother is from Devon, and that grandfather is from Oxfordshire, and i think his dad was Dutch. Thats about it, no interesting places, but where do you come from, since there should be some americans on this site, there may be something more exotic.

I have been appalled today reading the comments of one member in particular that 'fly in the face' of several of the rules/guidelines of this site. Yet they remain a member, despite spewing hate, derogatory racially offensive terms and abjectly ERRONEOUS so-called facts.

Is there no method aside from 'reporting' which I have done [and all I get is a canned email in response].

I respect diffferent viewpoints and have not that thin a skin and seek to help, education and learn myself, but too much is too much.

I'm actually white and used to have a preference for thinner women until I moved out to the west coast. Where I was from women who call themselves curvy and voluptuous were usually in reality fat, nothing wrong with it but its just not for me. But when I moved to the west coast I saw many Latin women who weren't thin but instead carried the extra weight perfectly. The weight went to their butts, breasts, and thighs which most men would find appealing, their stomachs stayed flat and still appeared toned and hard instead of soft and mushy. I noticed other women’s extra weight usually goes to their guts, ankles, ect, which isn't so appealing IMO. Why do Latin women carry their weight so well? Is it genetic? Is it the foods they eat? I'm not trying to rude or obscene I just want to know how Latin women do it?

There's a guy I'd like to go out with but everytime I see his mother she growls at me and gives me dirty looks. Not to mention she was happy that he broke up with his last girlfriend who was white.

I was raised to not see color, but I feel like I'm going to start a war if I go out with him.

Why did europeans evolve to have eyes that were not brown, something no other people did, is it because blue or green, or even purple lets in more light for the short winter days when the sun is further away? If so, does that mean that blue eyes people can see better in the dark than people with brown eyes?

So I have a National Geographic where scientists do research that traces the human DNA back to sub-saharan Africa. In others words all human beings and their DNA as we know it originate from sub saharan blacks. Aboriginees, (migrants from southern Africa) and people such as the Xhosa tribe in South Africa were traced as having some of the oldest DNA patterns of the current human being. It took 60,000 years for Asians to become asian, whites to become whites and so on and so forth, through voluntary migration patterns and adaptations to environment and climate.

I am from the western New York area, and am trying to find out my Indian Heritage. People keep telling me there is a way with DNA testing, but every time I contact someone, they give me the run-around.
They say I have to know which tribe; but how can I if my ancestors wanted to keep it hidden
I am sick of putting white when asked my race, because I am definately NOT 100% WHITE...no one ever has something that says mixed...I would like to know everything I am...
There are many reason each person should know all of their ethnic heritage. It is hard runnig around all your life not knowing who YOU REALLY ARE...I feel like I am from another planet sometimes, and this is very depressing.
