I'm just curious about this one. I asked a question a few days ago about why its okay for minorites to be racist, and many of the answers I recieved were along the lines of 'white people enslaves/beat/discriminated agianst X race X number of years ago!"
What does that have to do with anything? Of course its horrible that it happened, but no one in my generation actually lived through slavery. Now, I personally didn't do anything to you, personally. How can people justify hatred on something they didn't experience? You don't see two people of the same race going to eachother and saying 'Your grandfather beat up my grandfather! I hate you!". Besides, the irish were discriminated agianst during the potato famine, and no one complains about that. Why is it fair to hate me for something I didn't do and had nothing to do with (my family hasn't even immigrated yet!)? How will racism ever end if people can't let the past go? We can't change it, obviously. Why not let bygones be bygones?

Of course we need to learn from history- i'm not saying forget it ever happened! I'm saying that we remember it and not repeat it, but let the hatred go in favor of the lesson.

People brought up some good points. The japanese don't hate white people for what we did to them during WWII, and none of the jewish people I know have anything agianst the average german person.

I understand the sentiment of not being to blame. I am white, and often feel as though white people are blamed for other peoples' problems in today's world. Granted, those notions are not unwarranted. Yes, we did drive the natives from the lands that they had settled on before we came. Yes, we did own slaves.
The issue is that this is the collective, "we." Not every white person owned a slave. Not every white person oppressed blacks during the civil rights era. But this is often over looked, in favor of passing the blame for your shortcomings on to someone else. And as you mentioned, what happened was horrible. But that happening has always gone on, and will always go on. The media is always saying that slavery ended 1865. What about the Jewish slaves in the concentration camps? They were prisoners, no doubt, but many were forced to work, against their will, which is the entire notion of slavery. Slavery didn't start with blacks either; study Attila and you'll see some of the most brutal slave practices ever.
As I mentioned before, and this may be controversial, is that part of the reason for blaming other people, and in this case an entire race of people, is to transfer the blame. I believe this is more fuzzy logic than absolute. There are countless factors for why someone lives in poverty. In most instances it is not entirely their fault. But still, any situation you find yourself in, there is one thing that remains: you. If a person in any situation would take an introspective look at why they are living in that situation, rather than blaming others, perhaps they would be more motivated to enact change.
Segued from that, I've been able to garner an interesting perspective on the matter. As anyone who has passed through the educational system, from high school to collegiate, can see, there are simply baffling situations. You study, do homework, and participate to learn. However, some people would rather slack off and not even attempt to better themselves. Then, years down the road, in a boozing ken, they'll wonder who is to blame for the way their lives turned out. Someone else, to be sure.

Well first off I don't hate white people. I've learned a lot about my history and it hurts to this day what black people had to go through. The only thing that bothers me is that we still live in racism to this day. There are still a lot of people that don't like black, white, asian, hispanic and other types of people. I wish racism would be banned altogether but we know thats not ever going to happen. Its 2007 and we still have people on here talking about black people looking like apes and that we are all criminals. I try to get along with everybody and anybody that is willing to give me a chance.
So honey to answer your question, history doesn't justify hating white people. Its just still a lot of hate towards blacks from not only white people but other races and maybe thats why our history is playing a factor in it. And no we can't let the past go. It will never be bygones. Thats just something that will never be forgotten by our race. Just like the Jewish people will never forget what happened during the Holocaust.

1. History doesn't justify hating white people. Just like not all whites are racist, neither are all blacks racist.
2. blacks tend to get angry about some of the things I'm about to outline, and their frustration comes out as racism. Which isn't right, but anyway
a- the idea that some whites feel that blacks are angry about slavery, and not Jim Crow, etc. It's frustrating when you speak about black oppression and the first thing that comes out of people's mouths is slavery. Slavery was 150 years ago. Jim Crow was 40 max. That's clearly in many people's lifetimes.
b- some whites don't seem to understand that a black woman with stereotypical black features is not going to win Miss America. if you look at the winners of Black Miss America and Miss America, they couldn't look more different. If those whites would agree that Miss America has been white centric, but we're moving on and want to do it together, and no longer be segregated, fine. but whites tend to not notice things like "nude" stockings being the color of "white" skin, the fact that VH1 was extremely white centric until pretty much a year or two ago, etc
c- many whites have no real understanding of black culture, have never even been to the ethnic care section in CVS and if did, what have no idea what they were looking at. This is not even true of whites in other countries, like Brazil
d- i could go on forever. if we're going to be an integrated society we need to understand each other, and learn about each other.

I am not responsible for what was started years ago. I have been white all of my life and I am against the idea of slavery, and I cannot apologize for things which I was not a part of. I don't feel as if I owe anyone a damn thing. It's time for people to move on and treat each other with respect. That's the only way we'll get through this life.

Anti each and every thing is real, no longer purely White. If against the regulation is committed against 2 diverse races, many assume that's a hate crime. A criminal will screw something up no remember what the race. they only opt to sell thoughts and that's all purely a false impression. the U. S. is predominantly White. they are in a position to't face THAT plenty racism. of direction some do, yet maximum human beings of them do no longer. that's all propaganda. This Anti White, the Anti Jew, the Anti each and every thing.

Check out the Middle East. They do just that all the time. It's part of the culture.
> Besides, the irish
Also a good example of "your grandfather beat up my grandfather." Said grandfathers just happened to be Catholic and Protestant.
> Why not let bygones be bygones?
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.--George Santayana

I believe that when the minorities of all races stop using Martin Luther Kings speech "I Have A Dream" as a crutch instead of a ladder then we as humans with our own cultures can finally rise above what are forfathers have done or been through. So long as we continue to seperate ourselves into political and educational groups his dream will not come true. We are all minorities in our own right but we can't let our past tear apart our future for our children. It starts with simple God Like respect for the human race and all creed of culture. It's followed by a conspiracy to uphold our Savior in this worls as a family united by His love and grace. I believe that we can stop this hatred and embrace the reality of our past, present and future. Move on people take the hand of someone of the opposite race and hold them tight because in the end WE ARE ALL GODS CHILDREN ENSLAVED ONLY BY OUR PAST AGGRESSIONS!!!!!!!!

It is just an EXCUSE for ignorance. They call themselves African American and have never even been there and will never go there in their life. What happened in the past like you said is gone and we have nothing to do with it, but they can kill a White person and they have a disorder because of what happened years and years ago to SOMEONE ELSE, and the charge will be dropped. Look at OJ Simpleton for example. If he was found guilty, they were going to riot and try to burn down the city. They said that before the trial began. Just one excuse after another is what it amounts to. Poor me babies. Over half of them do not know what it is to be a man or woman and take responsibility for themselves, and the Government backs them up because of what happened years ago. If they had any sense at all they would know, (if they did some History research) that the Spaniards were the first ones to bring Africans over for slavery, but you will not see that taught in schools also. It is documented in the texts of History and all they have to do is go to the Public Library and read about it.

How does history justifies hating any race?
I don't think barely anyone hates someone for something in the past.
Maybe it's the kkks, nazis, or terrorists.
They make Christians/Caucasians, Germans, and Muslims look bad.
Most people hates others for something happening today.
For example, illegal immigration.
Since the majorities are Mexicans, everybody starts hating Mexicans in particular.
