Why did europeans evolve to have eyes that were not brown, something no other people did, is it because blue or green, or even purple lets in more light for the short winter days when the sun is further away? If so, does that mean that blue eyes people can see better in the dark than people with brown eyes?

Blue eyes, in fact all eye colors may be found in populations native to all parts of the globe. It is a matter of frequency that seems different.

A matter of differential diffusion from point of origin coupled with whether a trait is dominant (like brown eyes) or recessive (like blue), or fictitious (like violet).

Blue eyes do not let in more light. They are just a random recessive gene that has no practical purpose. It is more dominate in some cultures because people in those cultures like it, think it's pretty, so they spread it more.

Most of the time recessive genes are thought of as "bad" genes and are ousted early in their existence. Blue eyes are one of the exception genes that are thought of as "good" recessive genes (in western culture, and most others now too).

I am not sure. But I do know that your eye color mostly matches with your skin color. Perhaps darker eye color is better suited for tropical places. It definately has a connection with the temperature and geography.
