Other - Cultures & Groups - September 2006

I am from Quebec, Canada and i dont have much experience with american culture. I see most of it on TV and so on. i'm assuming that most people on this site are American (correct me if i'm wrong) and i have to say that i dont feel as affected by racism as you guys seem to be. I know that it exist every where and i know there are skin heads and hard core white power people here as well as black people who resent white people and people that hate jews and all immigrants here. just the other day a jewish school was set on fire here in Montreal. so i know that discrimination very well does exist here. but still. i get the feeling that it is much more present there in the states. we receive a lot of immigrants here in Quebec and Montreal is one of the most culturally diverse places to be. Honestly i love it here!! basically my question is...do you guys both american and canadian think that one culture is more preoccupied with race than the other??

Personally speaking I am not politically correct and dont intend on being such. If I see a black guy, he is black, not african american. I think no different of him than a white guy. If we arent supposed to discriminate upon race, color, sex, or religion then why in the hell should we change anything we say or do based upon your skin color or whether you have boobs or not. Its called manors and a sense of morals, follow those and treat those around you with respect and thats all we should have to do. I dont understand why we worry so much as a society about the overly sensitive crowd who gets all butthurt over the silliest of things.

hi, im 14 and everyone in my class bullies me because i prefer rock music to rave! everyone in my class likes rave music and i just dont like it! i dont say anything about them, but they bully me all the time and slag me! they keep callin me a goth, emo, grunger and other things that im not! i have only two good friends in my year and they're not in my class! i was wondering does anyone have a similar problem? i think someone shouild do something to stop this kind of thing happening!

I'm just currious of what people say about this.I just noticed this while I was on this site. I ask question about black guys dating white girls, and all of the white people say IM the racist. This is some of what I got. "Color shouldn't matter" That's really a racist question". I never said anything like black guy shouldn't date white girls. I was just wondering why. I am beginning to think that they didn't know the definition. Am I right?

What I want to know is when white people have kids that are bad like these brats on shows like supernanny why is it ok and they are doing everything they can to help the child and need help with them. Why when black people's kids are bad they are ghetto or they need child protective services called on them or they will be thugs and hoodlums. You rarely hear about black kids shooting up schools or killing their own parents. So really whose worse?

Why would I feel guilty wearing a shirt saying "I'm white and proud" or "White Power", but with black people, it's all about pride? Why shouldn't I be proud of what I am? It's amazing to me that the Bible has said how the end of the world is going to play out, but that most people don't seem to take these things seriously in the light of events that are taking place these days. It clearly says, "But in the last days, perilous times shall come..."

What are perilous times?

- 9/11/2001 tragedy
- Hurricane Katrina disaster
- Sunamis, earthquakes, and volcanic destruction in Indonesia
- famine/genocide in Sudan
- the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan
- The war between Israel and Islamic terrorist organizations
- Threat of nuclear attack from extremist nations
- Bird Flu, Global Warming
- HIV/AIDS

Just to name a few?

The scope of any one of these problems is daunting, but with all these things and more how can the world cope? Do you think the world can solve these problems with mere politics, diplomacy and humanitarian efforts?
