Why would I feel guilty wearing a shirt saying "I'm white and proud" or "White Power", but with black people, it's all about pride? Why shouldn't I be proud of what I am? And what's up with Black History month? I don't understand. I'm baffled. Why isn't anything else celebrated? There were white people who changed history. Why isn't there Gay History Month?

I agree that we do talk about white history a lot but like you said we talk about black history just as much! I don't think its fair that they can have a black history month, a black miss. america, and negro college funds but thats the world. It may or may not change. Life is not fair but we all have to live it.
I also don't think its fair how we can get in trouble for "discrimination against blacks". wait a minute. discrimination does not solely lie on the blacks, mexicans, latinos, etc. YOU CAN discriminate against white people too! When most people hear "discrimination", they think "ok its against a foreigner" or something along those lines.

Discrimination: (N) treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit

It's the world and it's life.
I agree its not fair.

Well, I think the whole "Black History Month" thing goes back to when we weren't allowed to celebrate or be proud of our heritage. You don't have a problem with that, do you? I'm curious why you have a problem with it, at all. You do remember the course of American history, don't you. You haven't forgotten what happened, did you?

Now, I know that the worse of it is long gone, but you can't deny that some of the fundamental aspects that supported (shall I say it?) slavery, still linger today. Like Metallica said, Sad but true.

Now, with that being said, I think it's a good idea that you support the recognition of Jewish heritage and you should start a petition to get them a month. Good for you. Kudos.

Overall, I think you are angry at the wrong things. You should be more angry that we even have to have such a thing as "Black History Month". Blacks and their accomplishments should have been recognized in lieu of a nationally recognized instrument such as this. It's a sad, sad thing. Sad but true.

Who said you couldn't be proud of who you are???? Be proud. You should be. And, really... does Black History Month really bother you? #1- its February... the shortest year of the month. And its not like any one goes out of their way to celebrate black history month. You may hear more in schools or maybe more commercials on TV. Thats about it. There are plenty of white holidays. Like Presidents day and all those. There is plenty of "white" stuff that is just the norm. No one calls it "white" anything. But, if that would make you happy. Go ahead, start a petition, and work it out. No one is denying white people of anything. You just seem to want to gripe about something that is pretty pointless. We (black people) were taught from day one to be proud of who we are because there is always going to be someone who has something negative to say. Thats just how we were brought up. That doesn't mean that we think we are any better than anyone else.

everyday is "white history" we hear about it in school, we hear about it in newspapers ,we hear about it on TV...we were an oppressed people for so many years and our children were taught that black is wrong and that WE were the bottom of the barrel....we deserve to show the children of color that they are important and can do anything they want to do in life no matter what society may think...

Because a long long time ago, black history was not taught in schools because of the shame white people felt about what they did to black people. Black history is overlooked. White history month? How is it different from the history we learn in school? What would be learned in white history month? I really want to know, because I see no reason for it.

i don't understand why black Americans complain about learning white history a lot in school, those are the people who settled in this country and set the foundation of what it is today, if you went to Africa i'm sure most of the history you learn is about black people, what do you expect???? when i was in high school there would be chapters and chapters about slaves, it was like reading the same stuff over again, there's only so much you can tell me about slavery

White History is all year - why isnt that enough for your stingy as s?
You're crying about one month? You really do think that the whole world revolves around you. If you didnt perpetuate racial division there would be no need to celebrate anything separately. If history was inclusive(the way it really happened) we all could stop playing games. You want your cake and to eat it too? You cant have it both ways little girl.

I wouldn't mind a Jewish/woman/gay history month.

But for the 9 months of school, you study white history for 8 of them. Can we at least not have one month to our name?

And, from my experience, it's not as much history as there is acknowledgement to the blacks struggled and succeeded. That is important to the minority race who would not hear these accomplishments, if not otherwise.

Hehehe, you're now beginning to realize that in America it's OK to be racist against white people....Although the other races are the first ones to cry racism if anything doesn't go the way they want.

Welcome to the *new* America.
