I dont think so. I think of it as more like a charity...kinda like donating clothes, but your donating your blood instead. Thats MY opinion though, what do you think?

We have a 501-c-3 nonprofit organization which helps a poor rural community in Africa. Although the donations are tax-deductible, we have been unable to obtain grants or even small donations to fund some critical projects like rebuilding a crumbling school, re-stocking our community pharmacy for the village, etc....
Personally, I devoted a lot of time and even made use of skilled volunteers, but to no avail.
It looks to me that many people are no longer care and especially when you are talking about projects in Africa.
At one occasion, we passed a money jar to a company to collect donations that will be used to buy pens and pencils for some poor elementary students in that rural community of Africa. When we went to pick the money jar, I discovered the employees had unplugged the bottom and remove quarters and all dollars bills.
My question to you is this: What can we do to get the much needed donations? Which doors to knock? Are the local grassroot volunteers a helpful?

I went down to the Gulf region twice this year to help clean up after Hurricane Katrina. While I was there I helped build and tear down houses. What would that kind of work be called : non-profit or volunteer work? or both?

I don't know about your offices in the United States but are Post Office is run so ridiculous that a 10 year old could walk in there and do a better job. The taxpayer should be angry about USPS stamp increase it is because the higher ups want more money and they are trying to squeeze it out of the hard working carriers and despite there big saftey propoganda that is a lie. The only thing they care about is getting the numbers right so they can get there bonus. They harress the workers buy demanding them to get done faster well putting more work on them. Then they go around and drive and spy while eating there big mac and nit pick on any last thing a carriar could be doing wrong. (example 5 minites over break limit) carrier wrote up. Bit buy a dog carrier wrote up . Fell down some icy stairs carrier wrote up. Well the whole time they sit around like little puppets waiting to hear what the higher office wants them to do next. USPS needs to overhall entire system starting with the top.

It seems like unless you qualify for public assistance or are extremely rich, after school programs, sports and positive outlets and much needed after school "daycare" are hard to afford. They are over priced and are time limited ( at least in my area they are ) I'm frustrated and would like to know your experiences on this issue.

Currently,i'm helping at a hospice, but i feel what i'm doing is little,i plan to do more after my exams,to do something to benefit others, like raising public awareness so that ppl will realise there are alot of unfortunate ppl and will help them by donation,or i want to do something to help all those ppl,i have dreams, and i've been racking my brain but no ideas came up,and i'm only a teenager, with no help and i can't depend on my family for financial issues,i didn't find anyone who have the same passion with me,i've always thought of helping other very unfortunate countries, but i guess i should start small first, that is with my own country,i just want to make unfortunate ppl's lives better, maybe the poor, like giving food or clothes, but from where do I get ppl to help and the sources?and financial aid?i don't even have a license..maybe ppl who have experience in these kind of things can share with me..i really need help, thanks alot.

I have a sister who is VERY materialistic, and she is making her kids the same way. She buys them nothing but designer clothes expensive flat screen tv's ,bedroom sets. Its just plain sickening, there also very ungrateful. If if not a famous brand they don't want it. They often tease my daughter because i buy her clothes from target and other cheap places. I mean it's ok to buy your kids nice stuff, but also teach them values. I buy my daughter nice things but she also donates to charities and we also volunteer with habitat for humanities to build houses for the less fortunate . She see that there are kids in africa who have nothing, so she wants to share. Isn't sad how or future generation is gonna be a buch a materialistic superficial brats? not really a question more like a rant

OK, so I am doing an Eagle scout project I have dubbed "Project READenforcement" It's a project I designed to help the Mississippi Gulf coast. When hurricane katrina came in, it wiped out the schools. Well, the state departments uilt them new libraries and stocked them and such, but the classroom library sets were never replaced. Anyway, I am going to begin by collecting as many books as possible for K-12. I started by going to thrift stores, and they either donated them to me by the box or sold them for 50 cents apiece. Now, I need some more ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways I could get massive amounts of books at once? And maybe how I could set up monetary donations? Thanks!!!!!

so if you've read any of my other questions then you have heard of my friend.
she shoplifted over $100 and they said they'd put the letter in the mail. she hasn't gotten the letter yet. its been a couple of days.. so its not that late..

BUT she needs to know how long it will take. 1 to get the letter. 2. to go to court. and 3. to finish community service. because she got offered a job and she told them that it would be a little bit of time before she could accept it but they said it would be OK in like a month or two..

how long until this is over???

Few things all of can start to do
1.Everyone get at least one cloth reusable grocery bag each, will mean less plastic.
2Stop buying Gas Guzzling SUV's, it is not so important to make everyone so comfortable whilst driving, whilst some Americans are laying down their lives in Iraq for the oil. Our dependence on foreigh oil is making us very vulnerable.
3. Everyone get used to bathing with luewarm water, and drinking tap water, Give up the plastic bottles
4. Start insisting on buying everying American, maybe slowly we can take back some of the industry that has forever gone to places like India and China. We should be having our own people on the swithboards in buildings built on our Lands, and bring back life to all those empty mills and factories in the US
